Meat is in the freezer
Yesterday was a good day! It wasn't a trophy buck, but it is meat in the freezer. There is a lot of satisfaction dropping a deer using a Uberti made 73 Winchester in .45 colt to drop a buck in his tracks. Load was 9 gr. of unique behind a 230 gr. cast rnfp poly coated slug. The deer walked out of the brush into the clear around 3:30 yesterday afternoon and stopped to think about which way he wanted to go. I made the decision for him. He sat back on his haunches, fell to one side the kicked a couple of times. Over with in seconds! After I filled out my tag, I went over to check. His nose was submerged in a puddle so no problem checking to see if he was dead. As far as I know, deer don't have gills. It was a forty yards shot in the clear. Yes, I'm a happy camper today. Now for the hard part....Should I get another permit and go for a doe? Only the wife and I so one deer goes a lot way, but I need an excuse to spend more time in the woods.

Congrats jimb16! Get the doe tag, you don't need to fill it and it'll give you a "reason" to be in the woods!

That buck will always be a trophy due to the way you did it. Congratulations!

Get the doe.
As cold as it is up there, with more winter coming, you'll be doing one of them a favor.:bigsmyl2:

Nice work !
I would go with a doe tag, then pop anything that came by while I was waiting on a deer - like a Red Fox, Coyote, etc.
We're allowed up to 8 tags here, so when we've taken all that we can use, we keep hunting with an eye to donating the extra meat to a homeless shelter, etc.

Around here DONATED deer are process free..

There's always someone who will take a deer off your hands. I wouldn't stop deer hunting as long as the season was going if I didn't have to.

Congrats on the hunt!:bigsmyl2:
