Win. Super-Lite in 38/357, 40 & 45ACP

I have a full can of Super-Lite here and have come up with just about nothing for data on it.

It seems it wasn't around all that long and none of my manuals(apparently) were printed while it was available. From burning rate charts it appears it would fit in as a fast burning, light load propellant.

My primary interest would be to use it in .40 and .45Auto loads as with a full pound of it I could make a good long production run in either of those as well as 38/357 target loads.

Anybody care to share any experience with it, even if it's only usable for shotshell loads? I can put together some of those if I have to. Since I can't get more of it this will be a one night stand, not a long term relationship but I hate to toss it.

Anything that works well in shotshells should work well for light loads in pistol cartridges. Nope, don't have anything specific to that powder, just sayin'.

9MM x 19 WIN. WSL useing a 115gr fmj
4.0gr=1050fps this is the starting load,
4.2gr=1100fps i've used this with good
MAX. 4.4gr=1150fps

I used WSL and was surprised when told it was discontinued.

I have some limited experience with WSL in .45 ACP.

It has a burn rate about in between Bullseye and Red Dot. I like 5.0 grs behind the Lee 230 TC.

I like WSL in the 45 acp, ive only tried it with Saecos #62 170gr & #68 200gr bullets , but 5.0 grs of WSL with either bullet is very accurate from all of my 45 acp pistols . I belive WSL is discontued but i still have about 1 1/2 lbs left in my 8 lb jug
the burning speed is close to but faster than 231
I have data for the 45 acp & 40S&W but none for 357
45 acp

200gr lead 4.3gr @ 755 fps to 5.4gr @ 910 fps

230gr lead 4.2gr @ 735 fps to 4.8gr @ 835 fps

40 S&w

170gr lead 4.3gr @ 940 fps to 4.8gr @1030 fps

200gr lead 3.0gr @ 710 fps to 3.9 gr @ 860 fps

i have the same data as bob.
i see start data the same as 231 but the end data is higher for 231.
so i'd say wsl is a step faster.
probably closer to 700-x.

I have had fairly poor luck getting it to shoot in .45 but have had very good luck with 3.2 grains of it behind a 358477 in the .38.

My Winchester #14 reloading manual , circa 1995, shows Super-Lite cast and j-word data for most pistol calibers. Even shows 10mm Auto using it.

I dug through some of my old reloading manuals (I never throw them away) and found that the Hornady fourth addition (copyrighted in 1991) has quite a few recipes using WSL.

I think this is probably the same manual merlin101 referred to.

Lyman manual might have info for some loads on it, IIRC.

Also, a Winchester manual would also. I know they had info for most handgun cartridges with the 'new' WST, WSL and WSF powders, where applicable.

I have Win. #15 Reloaders manual. No data for 38/357 and WSL.

I checked the Lyman manual has WSL info for 40 s&w and 10mm. the win manual has it for 9mm, super 38+p, 40, 10mm and 45 acp. Nothing for revolver rounds. HTH.

I have a digital version of the 15th edition of the Winchester manual. I purchased 6 cans of wsl on clearance several years ago. Shortly after that my life got busy and I stopped shooting for a while. When I returned the world stopped using WSL and the data was gone. After quite a bit of searching I eventually found this digital version of the manual. It has been a great resource since I could load about 10,000 rounds or so with what I have. PM if you still need the data.

A gunstore has a lb. of this for a yr. Old time price too.
