Before I had a tumbler I would coat the inside of a Ziploc bag with lube then add clean brass and kneed with hands to distribute lube. This worked well too.
Not really any wrong way to apply lube, just make sure you use enough and that it is all removed before annealing.
When deriming be sure to use a little lube on the punch too.
Swage on.

If one uses lanolin for deriming it is best to be sure it is all removed from the brass before tumbling in media. I used to use mineral spirits but no longer enjoy the smell. I have heard others here report that woolite fabric cleaner works well to remove lanolin but I haven't tried it yet.
If I can assure the lube is all removed from the brass before tumbling then I can rest comfortably knowing no lube will be left inside the jacket.
