I have been wanting to try some cast in my rifle to but have not taken the plunge yet and to be honest she has mostly stood in the corner of my safe until i decided to have a lokal gunsmith replace the old bolt handle and install a new safety so i could put a scope on her. I think it was well worth it as she now will be used much more.

That is one of the first threads I found on the 9.3x57 when I first got mine. However, one needs to read it carefully as the discussion bonces between the 57 and the 62 and it is easy to get the info mixed up.Quote:

i have 275gr fn gc with 37.0 - 41.0gr of imr4895 but i have to group them.
Non cast bullet content - My loads with 5744 started to give larger groups at 2100 fps with 200 grain powder coated bullets. I suspect alloy failure as the velocity and pressure exceeded the ductile strength of the alloy
I am getting some plastic shot buffer for case filler from a friend later today and I will see if I can not get more velocity out of the cast 200 grain powder coated using a filler
I finally got some Sierra 200 grain 0.375" and swaged them to 0.367" - abusing the NOE bushing in my NOE cast bullet sizing die. Found a load for IMR 4064 for 358 Winchester of 49 grains compressed for a 200 grain bullet giving a velocity of about 2500 fps in a 358 rifle.
I decided that this would be a good starting load for my swaged bullets and loaded up 10.
At the range, no signs of pressure, primers are still rounded and no signs of case expansion
Velocity was 2260 average for 10 shots and group size was 1" at 50 meters That is about all I am capable of with 70 year old eyes and worn out muscles with any gun.
I hope to work this load up to 2500 fps in the 9.3x57 but there may not be enough case to allow me to do this with IMR 4064.
It is really too bad that the bullet manufacturers do not offer a 200 grain soft point in 0.366" or 0.367" .
The load was from 358 Winchester data for 200 grain bullets published by Hodgdon in their on line loading data.

I worked up a 9.3x57 load using 358 win data for 200 grain bullets
I used IMR 4064 and started at 42 grains- primers just starting to flatten at 49.5 grains in my gun.
The bullets used were 0.375" Sierra meant for the 38/55 - run through an NOE 0.367" cast bullet size die.
Groups at 49.5 grain IMR 4064 were under 1/2" at 50 meters and under 1" at 100
velocity attained was 2260 fps with this load. (in 358 win it would be higher according to Hogdon's online manual)
You can basically get those fine Husqvarna rifles for free here in Sweden i think.
Unfortunately you have to go though a hassle to own more than 4 rifles, so when my dad's friend died last year i think it got scrapped as i wanted a 45-70 rifle. But i would have gotten it for free if i wanted.

My 9.3x57 really shines with a 200 grain bullet and IMR 4064. I am only up to 2260 fps with Sierra 200 grain 0.375" bullets swaged down to 0.367. The rifle gives a jagged one hole 5 shot group at 50 meters. I intend to work up a load to 2450 fps as there are no pressure signs at 2260 fps. My only fear is that the Sierra bullet I am using is rather fragile and is designed to expand at 375 Winchester velocityQuote:

There is a learning curve, It will take a while to learn the functions. not all powders are listed - yet.
How ever this a a very nice tool when there is no published data and you need a starting point or want to see how a powder performs
When you swage the jacketed bullets down from .375 to .367, do you then bump them to re-seat the cores in the jacket? The JACKETS will spring back slightly but the cores will not and there will be some level of looseness between them. This could be detrimental to accuracy.Quote:
