- I was given a Rainbow Leek by the wife and lost it
(stolen I think, but as I get older god only knows)
and paid to replace it I like it that well.

I discount all knife advisories that don't have some mention of Case. I don't know if they make assisted knives but I don't care. The make great stainless knifes but I love CV with the yellow handles. The small CV sodbuster is a great value. My EDC is a 32087 a rather small 2 bladed CV. For picnics etc I like one of the French Opinel INOX. I think mine is the 8 mm. All of these knives in service grades are cheap. For wacking, slicing.and fileting fish I like the Old Hickory 7" butcher knives which cost less than $10. The best tool I have found to clean fish with large scales is a claw hammer.
What use is a Tanto? It just looks hard to sharpen to me and not good for cutting, or am I missing something?
Been carrying the same smooth blade spyderco for 16 years and it probably gets used daily. Always open and close with one hand.

The general advantage in a tanto blade is a stronger tip.
If you look closely at the way it's designed, the blade can maintain its spine thickness almost all the way to tip of the knife, therefor making thrust cuts and piercing much easier. You also lose some of the risk of breaking off the tip of your knife.

Which is why I love mine for weeding in the garden :lol:
It is harder to sharpen and has less "belly" to slice with - the original use
was as a fighter in old Japan when opponents wore armor. The commonly cited methodology behind the American tanto is that with a more forward cutting edge, the knife will sever material it is stabbed into rather than just push it to the side.
Bottom line. If you love the look of the Tanto blade go for it!
But be aware that there are no practical advantages to the Tanto design
in a folding EDC knife.
I have a Ruger/CRKT that I like, it was reasonably priced below 30$.
I have a couple of Ganzo 728's that I dearly love. There is a growing assortment of knives and brands on top of my chest of drawers. Which one I take for the day depends on plans and what I feel like. There are at least 2 Kershaws in therem Leek and Scallion. A TEK or 2, the Ganzo's and varios other inexpensive knives.
Most work very very well, most are in the 3 - 4" size.
Today it is a plain steel Kershaw with the pocket clip held by a srew on the end.Attachment 254039Attachment 254041
I like my Kershaw 3850. $20, nice knife.
