It was the Sutherland battalion badge in the Seaforth regiment during the first world war with whom two of my uncles served in France. One was killed on the Somme in August 1916 going up through Death Valley to High Wood. The other survived the war, well physically at least.

I spent some time wearing a tam with the Lake Superior Scottish badge attached, and the Dress MacGillavry tartan as a background.
Both my grandfathers fought in France in WW I, one in the US Army and one in the Canadian Army. Just recently, we found the latter's enlistment papers on-line at a Canadian government website. I have his Glengarry here somewhere.
I personally was very lucky that both Grand-dads survived; otherwise I wouldn't be here, typing these lines!
