I have an 8 # keg of WSF and am interested in finding an equivelant load to 9 gr of Unique. Burn rate charts suggest WSF is somewhat slower than Unique. Winchester (Hodgdon) has no data.
New model SBH 44 mag 4 5/8".
Thanks
DB
Any thoughts?

i like WSF myself ! ive used alot of it in the 9mm & 38 super with excellent results ! but never in a 44 mag. on BEARTOOTHs powder burn chart Unique rates # 23 , WSF ranks # 31 so according to the chart its slower burning than Unique and a tad faster than HS6 ranked at # 32 according to there chart ! ( this is only a guide! as every round is different )
I let the gun tell me what it likes ! i work up a load in 1/2 gr incruments and use the most accurate load with that powder.
I would start of with the lowest charge with Unique and work my way up to the starting load for HS6 as a starting point.
I've used WSF in shotgun and 9mm and like it.
I have every intention of trying some in my .44's but just have not gotten to it ..........
Let us know how it goes ............
+1 on bobthenailer's advice ........... I think he nailed it!
Three 44s
Being slower than Unique and faster than 2400 I think it would be good in the .357 also and plan to give it a try soon. In the 9mm I use 4.9grains of it with good results. In the 44 mag you will use lots more. With the 9mm you use about 5 grains of Unique or same charge of wsf gives similiar results.
