A couple new ones today. A 10 inch teapot at 1 pound 7.3 ounces:

And a small 2.5 inch sugar and creamer at 5.6 and 4.8 ounces respectively:

I found this one today and could use some help on it. The bottom is covered in a white felt material so if there is any markings on the bottom I would need to remove the felt. Its weighs 1 lb. 10 oz., and it stands 9" wide and 8" high. The metal bends easily and stays that shape like pewter should. It doesnt appear to be that weighted because the felt on the bottom can be pushed in quite far and the piece overall seems to have an even weight throughout. So the base seems mostly hollow, but the neck may have weighting who knows. Before I remove the felt and void a return I need your opinions on if this piece looks like pewter or not.

To me, the base looks wrong and the arms are not as finely wrought as I would expect the real deal to be. It is hard to be certain from a picture on the internet, but my best guess is no.
I agree with imashooter2, but you could always dip one of the candle holder ends in some molten pewter and see if it melts.
Generally no. Like I said... my best guess from 300 miles away.
ok one more question,
Like I said there is a white "felt-like" material covering the base of the piece. What do you think the chances are that the cloth-like material covering the base is covering any markings? Have you seen any pieces where you had to remove a cloth-like cover on the bottom to see that the cover was hiding the markings?
I could always carefully cut the felt off and then if there was no pewter markings I could glew the felt back on. Its just a donation store find anyways.
I stopped there again on my way back from work to see if I could find the tea pot lid. Couldnt find it oh well, and supposedly it weighs around 5 oz. too.
Forget that, I took a chance and tore off the felt bottom cover, no weighting in the base, and MULLINGAR PEWTER stamp, +2 on this one. Maybe its too nice to melt, I'm gonna have to find more information on it.

Congrats! Thanks for the new hallmark as well. Nice macro pic.
Here it is all sorted out...
1-lb 10-oz. (no weighting at the base)
8" tall
9" long

Glad it worked out. I wouldn't have guessed it pewter either, the base looked odd. Now we know some of the stuff with a felt bottom might be good too. Just what I needed, another variable.. :)
While on their way to the Middle East, the Crusaders looted some Greek bronze statues. Melted them down to make coins. Hey, we are making money now!
Whats the consensus on pewter picture frames?
I found 2 of them, one weighing almost 1.5# and says "SEAGULL PEWTER ETAIN ZINN STLUCIA, W.I."
The other weighs just over 2# and on a sticker it says "FETCO PEWTER DATE: 12 APR '99"
The sticker on the 2nd one looks original to the company that made the picture frame. Also it has a cardboard backing so I havent checked to see if the metal is stamped underneath the cardboard, since a metal stamp isnt visible as it sits.
I'll have pictures tomorrow of these and some more finds.
The consensus is, that lots of things are made of pewter and not marked. As you handle more and more items, you get an intuition for the look and heft of genuine pewter. Until you develop that intuition, it is better to stick with hallmarked items as they are safest.
The 2 picture frames you list are both marked "Pewter" and therefore probably are. These are not food service items and so they do not need to be lead free, but items made in the last 40 years probably are.
