I prefer the M1907 leather sling. Trivia back in 2016 I ordered a few M1907 leather slings in Kuwait as they are still issued with the M24 and M2010 sniper rifles. Manufactured dates were 2014! Over 100 yrs still been made the same for service. Reminds me of the M1911 I had in Iraq in 2008, gun was made by Colt in 1916!

The 1907 sling was a favorite of WW2 British Snipers when using the No.4 (T) .
The wet conditions of the WW1 trenches made leather goods difficult to care for, Even ammunition belts and clip pouches had been made of leather earlier in the war but these became moldy and rotten within a few months. Web gear became the best alternative. Same damp moldy conditions applied in most of the Pacific theatre.
