Congrats on adding a new Marlin to the he stable! I wish you and your dad would give me a chance on scoring a deal on a used gun around here. Between your last few Marlins and his deals on the Single Six and Mountie last year, I'm over due.

I haven't seen the 444 listed in Marlins catalog for the last 3-4 months.
The upside is they can't mess up what they don't make.
I shoot Cowboy Lever Action silhouette with my 1969 Marlin 444.
I load a 240gr. Berry's plated FP,Winchester LR primer,Starline brass with
12.0 gr. of IMR 700X. It chronos at 1350fps, knocks over the 65lb steel ram target
at 200yds. easily, and kicks like a .22lr. Reloading is a must, as 20 rounds of
Hornady Leverlution ammo was $40.00+.
Thanks again for all the information from those who posted here. Also, thank you to the members who responded to my WTB ad for dies and brass; thanks to them I was able to acquire a set of dies and a good supply of R-P and Hornady brass. I loaded up a few rounds Wednesday evening using Glen Fryxell's accuracy load of 52.0gr H322 under a 270gr. Speer Deep Curl. 5 quick off-hand shots at 25yds shows good potential, but I have to say they kicked like a mule!!!
Just something to be aware of, the Hornady Leverevolution brass is a mite shorter than other brands of brass. Not a problem, really, but for a consistent crimp you may want to keep them separated.
