Sorry for your loss! I've lost a few pets over the years and it doesn't get easier.
Right after I graduated from Seminary in 2008, I was asked by a neighbor to do a funeral service for a deceased and much-loved pet dog. I did the service per The Book of Common Prayer for both the dog and the grieving family's benefit.
Pets do become part of our family and there is real loss felt when they end their too-short lives. My Vet explained about dog life spans. It seems bigger dogs have a shorter life expectancy than smaller and mixed breed dogs. I think dogs go too soon, in any case. My two loyal hounds rest here on my farm where I will one day rest beside by buddies.
Be well.

My back yard is full of the dogs and cats we’ve had over the years. I long ago learned to dig before we go to the vet. It is easier without the tears. My condolences to you.
If dogs don't go to heaven, I want to go where they go.
Sorry for your loss.
They're like kids except they learn faster , cost less , and only break your heart once .
