Had an interesting day at the range last week. Did a bit of testing with teh 40 cal 185 grain bullets and was was more then pleased with the resluts. Findings corisponded with many others here in that they like to go a bit faster to stabilize, from what I saw 800 fps was about minimum with good accuracy in speeds around 950 FPS.
Don't really want to go into long range results but did have an interesting equipment loss that makes for a good story. Shot my Crony! :Fire: - - - :killingpc
Well kind of. I was testing loads and everything was great. Probably 40 rounds into the sesion with the crony set up perfect for consistant results well out of way of the bullet path. So how do you ask....... the Crony was taken out of comision by a 3 grain projectile. That's right "3" grains worth of projectile center punched my LCD screen. I'll let you soak on that one a minute............
Inspection of the LCD screen showed a spent primmer had pierced the glass. I had to laugh a bit. Some how in the process of that custom bullet of mine the spent primer that was in the bullet it's self had came dislodged and vered slightly lower ofcourse then teh rest of the bullet. First time I had seen this. I shot all the bullets that day into a batch of wet newspaper and recovered all of them. Yes I did find the culpret with teh missing primmer. I do not see this as a safty issue at all and like I said it is the first time I had seen it at all with the pistol bullets.
Figured it makes an interesting story. What kind of ft/lbs do you suppose 3 grains has at 950 FPS?[smilie=l::lol:
Did send teh crony back for repair. $35 and good to go. As you can imagine it is pretty common replacment.
