Nobel type SP-83 powder???

Hey all,
I recently purchased a 4 pound box of HP-38 powder from a fella for $75 Canadian (here that is amazing, you probably get powder way cheaper down in the land of freedom)!

I have the opportunity to purchase some other powder, the box says (Nobel type SP-83)from the same fella...
I haven’t been able to find any data on this powder at all.
The fella tells me that it is the same as w231 and the HP-38 but has never used it himself. I don’t want to use this without confirmation.
Does anyone have any knowledge that they would be willing to share?

I have never heard of Graf...I googled it and all that came up was skates.

Been around as reloading supplier for long time - www.grafs.com

Their docs list sp3 an sp8 but no sp83 . Did he mean sp8 and sp3?

It is definitely SP-83.
I have a picture of the box but cannot for the life of me remember how to post pictures here.

After looking at the link, I am under the impression that they do not make this powder any more... or if the do it has been Redesignated with a different name.

HP-38, if it is similar would indicate a burn rate near BA 9.5. I don't find any information for a powder listing like yours.

I didn't find any listing of that type of powder, either. Can you post a picture of that can? I use Vectan powder and have had to go to several alternate sources overseas for information some of it in either Italian, Spanish or French. One site in German.

I was talking to a friend of mine that works in a ballistics lab.
I finally found an obscure list of loads for this powder:
9mm. 115gr jacketed max load 6.0 gr 1100fps
.38 spec. 148gr lwc max load. 5.3 gr. 850fps
.45acp. 200 gr Lswc. Max load 7.3 gr. 825fps

So we compared these loads and velocity to known powder loads and found that 800X is quite close.
I have loaded up some 800x 12g 1oz slug loads and identical loads in the SP-83!
We will try them out in the lab and see how they compare in reality!

Right on! I was just going through my powder and came upon a package from Ammo Mart marked SP 83. It was ordered a long time ago and I've lost track of what I was going to use it for. Now I know!
