Lyman Plains Bullet Project
Even though i have really nice custom molds built for my rifles i stil can't help myself from trying new things, i enjoy tinkering with this stuff!! My .50 Cal Stainless Green Mountain LRH barrel likes harder lead, i poured up a batch of Lyman plains that are in the 9.5 Brinell hardness, i lubed and sized these bullets down to .492, i will wrap my 2 wraps of onion skin paper and probably send them through my .500 Die (wont really do anything other than smooth the paper a tiny bit)
I also poured up some Lyman Plains .54 Cal bullets from Soft pure lead, my .54s like softer lead, i sized these bullets down to .532, i will do the same 2 Wraps of onion skin paper and send them through a .539 (again wont do anything besides smooth the paper out a bit)
I made my own .492 Sizing die and have been playing with the S&W 500 Bullet again with STELLAR results! These oversize bullets can be sized down like this no problem, PLENTY of Lube is your friend here, along with speed, when you start the push follow through to the end, you don't wanna stop and restart, if you follow these 2 steps these oversize bullets slide through like butter!!
