Lubricant for a Beeman P1 air pistol

What lubricants can I use for my Beeman P1 air pistol? Are there other suitable substitutes for the factory made lubes for the piston and spring?

Non Detergent motor oil SAE 30.

Mineral oil from the drug store, you can get the non perfumed stuff or just buy Baby Oil, NO it does not contain water as some claim.

Lucas red & Tacky, works well for the piston & O ring. Others say to use White Lithium grease, however it does harden over time, military found that out in WW2 in its use on the Garand's. That's why they switched to the brown/black grease in the little tubs.

Oh Ya, If you like spend money for little bitty tubes of oil, stop in to WalMart and pick up a tube of Pellgun oil. Quarter oz. for $2.99, MDS sheet says its nothing more than Non detergent 30 Wt. motor oil. Works out to $382 bucks a qt.

Springers use / require different type of oil(lube) for the spring chamber and the air chamber or so I was told around 30 years ago and thus I have always used the two different ones recomended by Beeman in my Beeman Model 250 rifle and Beeman Webley Tempest Pistol.

I recently ordered a bottle Spring and one of air chamber oil from Airgun depot ,brand was RWS and they were around $15 each but will last the rest of my life most likely. Both are on this page

I am not saying that non detergent SAE 30 , mineral oil or other recomendations are a bad idea I just am unsure which ones should be used where . I do know that what goes in the air chamber can cause major problems if it reahes its' flash point under compression.

Yes, I should have made the point to only use a synthetic silicone oil for the compression chamber in a spring powered gun.

OK so no mineral oil for the compression chamber. Heading to Camp Perry in a week for the pistol matches and the air gun range is a good place for some air conditioned indoor practice.
Commercial row is shooters heaven, easy to punish a credit card.

The Beeman P1 is a spring piston gun. Only use silicone oil in the chamber. An alternative to airgun chamber oils is the silicone oils used in RC cars. Same stuff, One 4 oz bottle will last a lifetime.
Also if you shoot it often on the low power setting, make sure to fire a few shots on the high power setting to help clean the chamber.

Called the hobby shop about synthetic silicone and they have 2 oz bottles of silicone shock fluid. Is this the right stuff?

Yes, that is the right stuff. 30wt is ideal.
Won't take more than a couple drops to lube it back up.

I got my first and only springer 2 weeks ago. I know that it's going to need lube. If I understand you guys, I should use synthetic silicone. Is that correct? Is the spray silicone the same stuff?

Springers require two different lubes , one for the Spring Cylinder and a different one for the Air Chamber. One can shop for less expensive lubes or go ahead and spend around $30 for the highly recomended name brand Airgun lubes. I have only used Beeman or RWS in my springers for the past 30 years and i have never had any issues. I provided a link to one source in post #5.

FYI The wrong lube in the air chamber can / will cause an explosion which may damage the airgun.
