How do I get the hardened powder coating off the ones that baked failures? lopsided, imperfect, whatever? thanks.
the ones I already heated and they failed - unrecoverable.

Smelting would be the most efficient method.
I remelt any inferior coated slugs. Not worth the time trying to dissolve the coating. Acetone over time will dissolve it. But I can cast 200 new ones in the time it takes to dissolve and remove the PC from 10 bad boolits.
And it is always asked: Does the coating burn off? Yes.....just skim it off the top.

Thanks. I guess I was concerned that the coating would slime up my pot when it melted off.
The PC turns to a black ash lump and will not harm your pot at all. At 700+F you will not have any sticking stuff!
I do it all time with no adverse problems. Just skim the garbage off the top. And mabe add a pea-sized piece of beeswax to clean and reduce the Sn back in.

Thanks. Happy holidays. When I finally get some right with the HF red in this south TX weather I'll post pics.
I take my rejected PC'ed boolits and place them in a metal ladle, then melt them with a propane torch .
Then I pour the melted lead in my casting pot to avoid getting any melted PC on my pot.
Most of the PC burns up and floats to the top as a regular dros, and can be skimmed off easily.
I have several soup ladles that I bent the handles over , to use just for this type of thing.
The boolits can also be placed in the ladle, and then the ladle floated on top of your melted lead till the boolits melt.
Then after skimming the lead can be added back into your pot.
Sort of like a double boiler set up for those who do not have a propane torch or seperate burner for smelting outside your pot.
We burn the PC off of our rigging hooks at work every few months by placing in an oven at 650 - 700 F.
O I do remelt my messed up PC boolits.
Just be sure to stay upwind. Burning PC puts off some rather unpleasant smoke.....
add a little extra flux to that smelt, Does the coating burn off? Yes.just skim it off the top.
just skim the PC boolit skins of the top of your pot after melting
be sure to wait till all the lead melts out of the PC coating before skimming. Can toss out some lead with the coating if you're too quick
