I just couldn't pass up on this Mauser Chileno 1895! The Redfield sight is probably worth what I payed for the rifle.
The barrel needs to be recrowned and a front sight installed. This should make for a good winter project.

if you bought that in a pawn shop along route 14 in mo I would believe it. I saw one very very close to that one and it was screaming "take me home". But then there's the wifey!!!
I bought it at Wanenmachers.
I wished you lived nearby, in about an hour,we could recrown the barrel, make the bolt look great, and get the front sight on. If the barrel is good, that looks like a fine woods hunting rifle!

I slugged the barrel today and it came out .287
Is there any particular boolit weight/design that the 7x57 really shines with?
This rifle will most likely only be called into action to take care of the hoard of invading targets at my local range. I have plenty of others to fill the roll of meat getters.
That gun will do very well with the Hornady 175 jacketed RN over enough
IMR4831 to make 2400 fps.
Good luck finding a large enough cast boolit for it. Normal rule of thumb is
+.002 or .003 on groove diam, so you need to find a .289 or .290 boolit to
make it happy - probably. MIGHT get by with .288.

As I remember it Lee makes a mold with fat diameters to solve just your problem.
Well guys I've made it further along on this project than I had anticipated.
I traded a member for a set of dies.
Formed brass from 270
Scrapped the idea of dovetailing the barrel for a front sight and D&T'ed for scope mounts yesterday.
I received NOE 290 132Gr FN 1GC 1PB 7mm Thor about a week ago.
I would like to hear from those of you that have experience with this design in the pb configuration.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This rifle has gone through some changes since I traded it to my dad.

barrel.

I installed a Timney Sportsman trigger to sweeten the deal for my dad when I traded the rifle to him. After he got it he had it rebarreled with one of the Green Mountain Series 2 barrels.Quote:
