First run for my new pot.

I had an old pancake style compressor sitting in the shop, always in the way, so I made a lead pot out of it. It's heavier steel than a propane tank and built to hold 120+ psi so it ought to be tough enough. Right now it has about 80 pounds of range scrap in it but would easily do a hundred. The burner is from an old gas oven, and the base I built from an old steel chair and whatever scrap I had laying around. I left the handle on the tank so I have a hand hold to steady the pot while fluxing and dipping.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Nice piece of work. A lot to be said for using what you got on hand.:castmine:

Just finished the first full pour out of it. As soon as the ingots cool I'll weigh them. Got another full pot cooking now. :-)

Obviously I had more scrap in there than I thought. The ingots from the first pot full weigh 101 pounds. :-)

Take the top half of that tank and make a lid, the scrap will melt faster.

Got it on there now. It's not a perfect fit but it will definitely hold in the heat. Thanks.

I just poured in the last of the range scrap I had in the barrel, probably end up pouring about 450 pounds today.

No doubt! I use an old cast iron grill as an oven and it melts it down pretty quick, more so once some has melted and is in the bottom.

Im betting that compressor was the harbor freight pancake. I have a dead one in the garage right now. You gave me a good idea on how to use it. Thx

Actually it was an old Campbell Hausfeld. Probably made in the same Chinese factory as the HF model.

Best use of recycled material I have seen in a while. Got my store bought setup beat and a lot more $$ in your pocket too!!

That is a fine setup indeed, even better that it was from recycled gear.
