anyone ever put a Dillon powder measure on their turret press?

hi,
just mounted a new lyman 8 turret press on an in-line fab mount.
wondering if anyone has put a dillon measure in their turret & and how it worked out for you.

not being picky here but if you have a progressive measure on your turret other than a dillon...please dont reply.
not that i dont want to hear from ya but i have had hornady`s & rcbs`s progressive presses & their respective
measures & i just didnt like them. ( not the presses per se...presses were very nice, just dont like the linkage
set ups of their measures.

anyhow, if you have a dillon on your turret, please let me know how you liked or did not like the the measure on it.

There are a couple different styles of Dillon powder measures. The older style with the spring return would work very well. The “fail safe” style would probably not work well since the charge bar would not be automatically returned to the starting position of the cycle.

They used 3 different linkages, the first had no fail safe and relied on two springs to return it. It didn’t always with every powder so they added the fail safe rod to force return on the down stroke. People could still short (start up and go down before completion) stroke and throw doubles and they added the “clunker” linkage, so it couldn’t reset until the rod pulled it down.

If you lock out the linkage and throw a couple springs or rubber bands around the horn on the powder bar and aluminum housing, it will do what you want.

These are the first two linkages. Either could be used without the failsafe rod, just had to keep an eye on the measure to ensure it returned or you could throw squibs. Note the location of the springs.

Might be easier to pick up a Lee disk measure. They have been very accurate for me.

I use them on my T2 presses. The empty case lifts the funnel and operates the measure fine. I also use the Dillon 450 manual measures. They work great.

I have 4 Dillons and a few extra measures. But the most economical measure is the Lee measure. They are light and plastic. The measure inserts work well! I put a couple of them on my turret presses. Check em out!

I put a bolt on my 550 measure to lock the arms together.Attachment 315733

I locked my 650’s arms together to allow charging from a different station. It works great.

i’ve used my Dillon measure on my rockcrusher

I use two of the spring bands….and some twisted wire to disable the KURCHUNK KERCHUNK on the newer style Dillon PM

Is that a Dillon 450 manual measure?

I have seen other posts on this subject. The consensus was that it was not a good idea, at least on a T7 Redding. One problem is the jostling of the press as it is moved from die to die has an impact on the quantities yielded from the powder measure.

I ordered it in the early 90's, not sure what machine it was supposed to fit, 550 I think. Used it on a Projector loading for my Highpower rifle match habit.

I have used my DILLON powder measure on my RCBS RockChucker

it’s the newer style, so i use the older style return spring

it works well
