Savage 110 Tactical 308
Been lusting after a good left handed 308 for a while. Got a good deal on this gun. It has a 24" heavy threaded barrel, uses AICS mags, accustock, accutrigger and 20MOA rail. Topped it with a Vortex 4-16x44 30mm scope. After some limited barrel break-in it grouped pretty well with a handload I had for my son's rifle using J-words. Did pretty well with the cast bullets I had loaded, so after some fun blasting, I got serious with load development. It seems to really like the Lee C309-170F cast of wheel weights with copper gas check and Alox lubed. 27gr H335 seems to be the ticket. Should be 1800fps or a little less.

That's some good results! I have the cheaper "Axis" in .308 -tried 2400, RL7, 4895 but not H335 yet. Have same mold, may try it. But yea, you found a sweet spot!

I have used 2400 and H322 in my son's ruger american. They both do well, but I haven't had results like this. I tried 28 grains and got greater than 2" groups which was bizarre, so I just stuck with 27gr

I never thought of H335 as being a good powder for cast bullet loads, but obviously it is or it can be. I have a couple of heavy .30 rifles like that I want to work up into target shooters like that with cast, nothing like that so far from the .308.
Congratulations on the load and a good rifle. I've always liked the Savage 110 series. My youngest son shoots left handed and we got him one for his first deer rifle, at that time, Savage was the only one making left handed youth bolt actions.

I don't think you can go wrong with a savage.

my 116lh shoots lead 150-180gn well with 20gn 2400

My .308 likes Reloader 15 and Varget best. But, I have a 26" barrel and shoot heavy bullets. Cast bullets are best for me between 1700 and 2000fps. IMR4198 and 4895 have also given good results with cast.
If you want some real giggles try subsonic loads. I use 7gn Blue Dot with 180gn cast. MOA at 100yd and sometimes at 200yd. Fun and cheap to shoot.

A jacketed bullet 2” out of group would bother me.
The cast group is outstanding.
