7x57 small primer ?
So does any one know of a source for small primer pocket 7x57 brass ? Or something even usable (6.5 x 55 ?) I have been out of large primers for over a year now and am convinced there are none in the state.been considering re barreling but the reamers I want are out of stock as well.....casting about for something to get this rifle shooting again.

if you're using cast bullet level pressure loads try LP primers.

Freedom Arms used to sell a bushing to convert large pistol to small rifle primers. I used a bunch of them back in the day to convert large rifle and pistol cases to small rifle primers. I haven't seen them in years though.

Or LPP mag .
7-08 from 6.5 CM is about as close as you'll get and the neck will be short . In terms of higher MAP than the nominal 55-58kpsi the x57 and 06' clans aren't even being explored , it's the whole more with less deal where displacement only has a place in heavy lifting these days .

If I was in that situation, I would seat SR or SP primers inside of gutted and punched flat LR spent primers. But that's me. It worked when I tried it; and I read about it on CB- or I would never have thought of it.

Greywuuf ,
Where are you located? Have you considered a WTT ad to swap some of your primers for LR?

Most cast boolit rifle pressures are within the range of magnum pistol cartridges. So long as you don't try to push the envelope you can use magnum large pistol primers in cast boolit rifle loads. For most of the moderate level cast loads, regular large pistol primers will probably work. BTW: the 6.5x55 Mauser has a larger case head dimension than the rest of the Mauser cartridges and wouldn't be a good choice for reforming. (I know; people have made 6.5x55 from other 06 sized brass, but it wouldn't be my first choice)
Using inserts or other things to fit small primers into large primer pockets, I'd be worried about gas leaking back and causing a gas cutting ring around the firing pin hole in the bolt face. It might exist, but I've never heard of small primer pockets on any of the Mauser cartridges.

Check post #14, I'm just starting playing with 209 primers in Berdan cases. It may be a solution to your problem.
Other people have done it successfully, for light loads I'm not sure why it won't work.
