When shooting a gas checked style boolit without a gas check, I would worry about gas cutting at the smaller diameter of the base and possibly causing leading. With the same boolit PCed, would the base be protected from gas cutting?

Salvaged boolits taken from my berm dont show any gas cutting. The PC is still whole at the base and the base sides just have groves, no cutting.
I did have some leading issues with single coat PC when I started but now I double coat and I dont have any more issues.
As long as the bullet fills the grooves completely you should have no gas cutting, GC or no GC.
I have shot a lot of Lee 30 cal 150s & 170s (30 Herrett, 30-30 & 300 BO) and Lee 35 cal 200s (357 Max, 357AR Max) with ASBB HF Red PC and no check.
With a good fit, you get no gas cutting.
I pushed the 35 cal to full power with no problems.
With the 30 cal stuff, accuracy would sometimes go bad above say 80% to 90% of maximum.
If you have a properly coated & cured PC bullet there will be no gas cutting. The benefit of a perfectly installed gas check is it provides a completely flat & perpendicular base.
I also use PC with GC design bullets, but without the gas check. Haven't had any issues yet.
Might look at this stucky.

I started shooting then with a molybee lube and had no problem with leading of cutting if kept at or below 1000 fps in my.41 mag.
