Have a good friend who loves pump guns and has 2 Savage 170's in 30-30. Will be moving to Tennessee and bought 16 acres of Forest. Wants to try 35 caliber 200 gr. cast boolits for deer & hogs.
He's considering JES to do the do the rebore and rechamber. Anyone done this conversion?
I’ve had JES rebore a Rem 700 .308 to .358 Win and a Win 94 30-30 to 38-55.

I don’t know if the Savage 170 will work ok with the shorter length of the .360 BH; but it probably will if you pump it like you mean it..
My mother had the .410 pump shotgun that the 170 was based on- and working the action slow was asking for a jam.

Technically, the .360 BH is a higher pressure round than the .30-30. I don't know if the Savage Model 170 is strong enough for it.

The 360 BHMR will not clean up a 30-30 chamber. If he doesn't need a straight walled case would a 35-30 work?
The 35-30 unfortunately needs custom dies which cost as much as the re-bore. $300+ vs $38 buck hammer diesQuote:

The 170 is a gun I still would love to have, but strength for the action is very limited from the folk i heard that have them.
Could probably sell the 170 and get a new single shot .35 of some sort, or a worn but serviceable 336.35. If anything goes wrong with the 170 project it becomes a parts kit at best.
Like has already been mentioned it won't work the 360 is too short.
I have a 170 in 35 Rem. fine gun, but like was also mentioned above you need to rack it good.
Mine has claimed several deer most were drt'd or didn't go more then a few feet.
No straight walled regulations in the great state of Tennessee buddy, hunt with any deer rifle you have.

30-30 kills deer just fine anywhere in the state of Tennessee. Leave them as they are and find you a Remington 14 or a 141 in .35 Remington.
Yep I wouldn’t mess with the gun. Sell it and put towards something you want. I’m not an AR hunting king of guy but I might look at getting a 358 win barrel for one of my 243 AR10s. They run $249 for a 19” 358 win barrel.
'Nother thing to remember, Savage no longer offers any parts or service for lever or pump actions. The gun only has value as long as its functional.
