Any Love for Herters XK3
Attachment 294173Attachment 294174Attachment 294176Attachment 294177
Bought this the other day off Guns International! Herters XK3 in 308 Win. made in west Germany! The VZ "24" action were M XK3, so excited to have added to my collection of bolt guns, even the scope is clear as a bell and made in Japan! This gun from the early '60's sure has aged well, me '62 not aged near as well!

I wanted one of those in 30-06 back in the day but could not afford one. That did not stop me from drooling all over the Herter's catalog. I miss the old Herter's Company. james

Its a factory built Mauser in .308, what's not to like?

1st 308 I ever owned, but I hear it's a great cartridge! Metric nut myself, but hey I got 2k LC brass!

Believe it or Not!!!
An M-48...acquired without a barrel... nor bolt... Now has an XK3, 308, barrel on it... with a Custom (not bubba'd by me) bolt, sitting in a sweet Boyds Stock... and is a Favorite!!!! Sure makes a nice piece... Not a "tack driver", But...anything shot at...has been DRT... Good enough for the Girls I go With...
I am Jealous that I don't got a "Real" One

I do like how the top edge of the forearm tapers into the barrel, unlike the huge flat that is the top of the forearm on most wood stocked rifles of the past forty years. It just looks more refined.
