My first powder horn attempt

Still in progress, tomorrow I will look at fitting the horn stopper into place. I got tired of spilling that black gold, So i used a 3006 case, cut it down, drilled and epoxied it into the horn for a handy funnel to put the powder where I want it. The horn tip will slide over the case and be the stopper. Found this antelope horn many many years ago out on the plains. Never seen one before and found out they are harder to find because they are made of hair and fall apart after a while. I plan on rubbing in some boiled linseed oil. Most likely going to use it for rendezvous as it is a big large and bulky, but still pretty hard cool. I've never seen someone use a speed goat horn before!

End cap is oak. That **** is worse than shaping steel!

Pretty cool man. Bout how much does it hold you reckon? Does it stand on the end cap? Like a powder horn version of a table lighter, thatd be pretty sweet for table use. I wouldnt do linseed oil personally, I'd be afraid itd cause the fibers to swell and delaminate. You might consider formby's tung oil.

Not sure how much powder it holds yet. And yes, it does stand up on the end.

Just give it a coat of non gloss clear lacquer, It will soak in and keep the fibers from lifting. It will also water proof the horn.

Very nice...Looks like it would make a better priming horn than a "regular" powder horn. Leave it as is for a rustic look. If ya want it more refined you could scrape, rasp and sand it down smooth and treat it with a mineral oil/bees wax mix
