I wonder what happens with the modern substitute powders? I have no knowledge of the detonation rate of that fake powder. I guess if you overload one, you will be notified by parts of the gun leaving the area at high velocity.

waksupi replied to a thread Barrel forging in Muzzleloading.
A question for the metallurgists in the group. Forging steel with a coal forge adds carbon content to the steel as it is forged. Would the same happen with a propane forge? If it does indeed add carbon to metal by forging, would wrought iron be...

Yep. a soft wood like poplar is a wooly bugger to checker. A good hard wood is needed for good definition.

I fire lapped a Douglas barrel with LBT lapping compound. Low velocity loads for a half dozen shots, clean, test fire again. I had to fire around 18 rounds to get the accuracy where it should be. When I was cleaning the barrel between trials, I...

It certainly isn't ideal, however I have had several barrels over the years with very rough grooves. They shot very well, although there was the expected fouling build up.

Dean, I have always figured a .30 bore starts at 180 gr., and goes up from there. I think a 200-220 gr. bullet is probably optimum.

I grew up on walnut and steel shotguns and bolt guns and lever guns. Love'm all. I shot in an NRA junior club and my high school rifle team. Then, some sort of 'alter reality' set in... I was 'introduced' to the M16 in Feb 1969 and saw all the...

You picked a good piece of wood to learn on. Poplar will be a bit soft, and be a little difficult to keep sharp, well defined lines, but should cut easily. I do all my octagon barrel inletting with chisels, and a homemade scraper. Takes me around...

RCBS 165 SIL works well as does the SAECO #301, if they will chamber. I do not have load data in front of me at the moment. I recently started playing around with the RCBS 130 for the 7.62x39 (works pretty good on that), and I think it will work...

I bought this PID from Mark last year and am just now ready to set it up. I looked through the thread for instructions but didn't find any, and don't have the PMs he sent me anymore. Does anyone have instructions/helpful tips? Tony

Your balls will likely shoot better than you are capable of, all factors considered. Our monthly club shoot was today. We have some very good shooters in the club, and no one could hit their *** with both hands today. Some days you are good, some...

49 days is the maximum before adopting. That is the point that they imprint on an individual. After that they will be harder to train.
