I wanted a Hudson Bay ax something awful this spring. I had a big chunk of spring steel from the scrap yard so I just built one. It's handy and just the right size and weight for me. Got the heat treat just right so that a file just barely bites....

I run across some older and some newer manuals in yard sales and estate sales, some of these people don't have any idea of what they are worth so I snap them up. that is a good place to look .

I have always rendered mutton tallow by chunking it out and setting it in a Dutch oven over moderate heat and allowing it to cook out. I do this OUTSIDE, nothing has the smell of sheep like hot grease from said sheep. It will leave your house...

Beef tallow will work in many applications but it has a higher natural salt content than mutton tallow and will oxidize to the point of becoming rancid. Mutton tallow stays solid at higher temp and doesn't go rancid making it a common component in...

Mines still apart laying on the bench, needing to be finished. Those are exactly the the kind of rough guns that follow me home on a regular basis. I need to start taking vacation from my job in town just to finish projects. With a 2 year old...

Does anyone happen to have an extra barrel wedge pin for a CVA Hawken? Steel or brass makes no difference.

Any 510, 11,12 or 13 I see for under 200$ comes home with me. Been that way for 5 years they are great rifles. Even have a 514 basket case, tho I'm not such a big fan of them it was too much of a lost puppy to leave where it was.

I just cut pewter strips the same size as my wrench. It doesn't deform as bad as flashing but is soft enough to not mar anything. When I flatten or crush one it just goes in the tin pot and I grab another.
