Thanks, EMC! (I was very pleased with that target as I hadn't fired the SBH in ~6 months.)

Maven replied to a thread .45 cal. Patch Size? in Muzzleloading.
This may sound stupid, but I once averaged all the patch diameter/size dimensions I read about in a thread on another forum. It came out to 2.3 x RB diameter. In the case of Greg's .445" RB, that would be 1.02" or 1". Btw, I've using this...

I have a .445 cal mold and am prepared to buy a .440 if needed. Greg, A quick & dirty test (with an empty gun!) is to see whether a bare .445" RB will roll all the way down the barrel and out again. If it does, you'll just have to see which...

Here is a photo of Tuesday's range session with #429260 over 8gr. Unique. The WC was sized to .431", lubed with Lar's Xlox, and taper crimped. I fired these @ 25 yd. with the the SBH's butt on a "rabbit ear" bag. I think if I used a 1" red...

Try googling Bill Ferguson, "The Antimony Man" for ideas about incorporating antimony into your WW mixture. Btw, Ferguson used to sell antimony + a special flux which allowed alloying it at 600 deg. - 700 deg. temperatures.

Lead collector, At one time I owned 2 K-31's (since sold), and found some of the CB's you mentioned above were quite accurate: Ly. #311466, Ly. #311291, and the Lee CB were favorites. However, I sized them to .309" and needed a nose reducing die*...

msm, I had the same cap ignition problem that you have. To wit, it usually took 2 strikes to fire the caps with either the factory nipples or the Uncle Mike's I replaced them with. The Uncle Mike's were no better than the originals. Because the...

Jake, I use a C.E. Harris designed, NOE produced ~160gr. GC CB, which I size to .316" for my SKS: Very accurate and easy to cast from my 6 cavity mould.

As per Ken's (Pressman) suggestion, I'm posting a brief description of my historic mould. I picked up the pictured B & M Iron #429260 (wadcutter)* on eBay years ago for a very good price. It was filthy, but not abused and cleaned up nicely, so much...

You can if you first fill all the grooves with your favorite CB lube. However, it does require a bit of muscle, and unless you have a exceptional well-fitted top punch, you risk distorting the bullet nose. Sizing to .311" and the to .309" is more...

Yes, it does work quite well, but you may want/need to lube the CB's first to prevent them sticking in the die. This has happened to me several times and it required a propane torch to melt them out, then dropping the die into ATF. Needless to...

Maven replied to a thread Sizing for Marlin 336 in Cast Boolits
KevH, I tried sizing CB's from .309" - .311", but found the #336 (Microgroove rifling) was most accurate with CB's sized to .310". Moreover, my gun was especially accurate with Ly. #311466 and Saeco #315.
