Considering the .358 Win is based on the .308 case, I disagree. .358 Win is probably the finest cast bullet round you can chamber for.

I recall a so-called gunsmith who drilled through the barrel of a Sharps to mount sights. First shot, the sight took a trip.

I recall Winchester .22 Shorts for $.41 and .22 Short HPs for $.42. Try finding a brick of Winchester .22 Short ammo now. Mission impossible. In high school, one old lady ran a small country store. She always carried Peters .22 Shorts for $.50 a...

Since it's a S & W, I'd go with a Lyman 358477 PB and have it hollow pointed. You may run into problems with cylinder length with a Keith 358429. Had a Model 28 with a cylinder that would barely take them length wise. Or, pick up a 356156 and...

If it's a factory Marlin M1894, stick with the 257420 Lyman. With its factory twist, the longer/heavier the bullets and you get instability and keyholes./beagle

beagle replied to a thread Over lube a bullet??? in Cast Boolits
Yes. The resulting problem is lube purging fliers outside a normal group. These can't be predicted but are often discussed by cast bullet "benchies". On a 311466, I'll normally lube two grooves and let it fly./beagle

beagle replied to a thread Angled Grease Grooves? in Cast Boolits
I think we often times get hung up on the amount of lube needed by a cast bullet. We know that Keith's square grooves made release more difficult but at the time was probably necessary due to the lubes available. With the improved lubes we have...

Shot some in wooden trays not long ago from an estate sale. They fired fine. Also some old CCIs with no Zip code on the address. Bunch of the odd sized LP primers that were government made (probably through the DCM) and a whole batch of Berdan...

Now, wait a minute here boys. I've had two Posi Prime tools and both cracked and I sent them back w/o the punches. I have a .22 slide top ammo box with punches in it of all vintages. I know I've used Posi Prime punches in my bench mounted RCBS...

That's the right way to do it. Also notice the notch on the front of the cock. If you guns don't have that, get out a file or Dremel and do it. It directs fragments away from the eyes, and helps split the fired cap for easier removal.

Yep, they do that. People around here open the hoods of the vehicle when camped in the back country. The pack rats prefer enclosed spaces
