Nice to see another lever with open irons being used in the field. Also nice to see you posting, I've been missing your hunting pictures over on the fire.

Get you some 75 gr hp or plastic tipped for varminting and to use up that 4895. Works great in my ruger. I much prefer the H4350 for 100+ though.

Had a pair of fawns that liked to bed in the back yard last year. They'd stay most of the day and towards evening mom would show up to check on them and feed them. One day I was sighting in a rifle on my backyard range. The sight path is along one...

The older I get the more I enjoy hunting with these old guns and cartridges. My rifle isn't that old, but the 38-55 chambering is. Works great at woods ranges.

I`ve come to prefer the gutless method. Skin in sections and quarter where it lays or wherever you prefer if you don't want to do it in the hunting area. Pack the quarters out and put them in a cooler. I usually run water over it and drain off a...

I use the NOE version of the Saeco #315 in my 308 for faster loads. In my European o/s throat and bore I size .312 and seat into the lands. 34 gr Norma 202 gets me 2040 fps, 35-Varget gets 2050, and 44-H4350 gets 2270. For lighter loads I use the...

I've got about 50 lbs of ingots given to me by a co-worker before I retired. He said they were WW he and his dad had gathered when he was a kid, I'd guess sometime in the 60's. They are marked WW. Now his dad also ran a print shop so there is the...

Babbitt can be most anything, my old Machinery Handbook has about two pages of tables of differing alloys ranging from 90 some % lead to near pure tin. I picked up quite a bit one time that was stamped #4, hoped it was SAE #4 which is mostly tin....

The range lead I've been digging out has a little higher concentration of cast bullets in it, been averaging 0.2% Sn, 1.5% Sb according to BNE's testing. I generally add some tin to give more diameter in some molds for some applications.

I cast that 280473 spitzer about 25 years ago for use in my 270. I used loads from the Lyman manuals, but never got it to shoot very well above 1500 fps. I ended up using it with Red Dot at around 3.5 grains for offhand practice loads. I've since...

ole_270 replied to a thread bullet for 25/20 in Cast Boolits
Anyone looking for a mold for the 25-20 should check out the NOE 260283, I have it in a plainbase version and it's about all I shoot anymore. The Lyman 257420 I have always worked well, just wanted to do away with the gas check.

Son n Law got a young doe on the bean field at our place yesterday. Used his "one rifle and load for everything", even coyotes. Late M70 Fwt 30-06, McMillan Edge stock, 165 gr Partitions, H4350. I've seen him use it with no trouble on everything...
