John, Here's to your retirement may you enjoy many years of it. As for the choice of bullet for the 450 and given the usual range it would be used at any of them will work. I don't have a 450 but have shot several elk with a 45-70 using the...

Nice rifle! Some of us are blessed with good friends be sure to tell them that you appreciate them while you can. I lost a friend last March that I was closer to than my own brother, I miss him every day. Looks like you're going to have a lot...

It appears to be a twist barrel type where you turn the barrel to the side eject the empty then turn it still farther and load a cartridge from a tube magazine in the butt. I saw a similar one 30 + years ago that was made by Parker & Snow? It...

I'm not familiar with the Triplet & Scott but you indicate it's a repeater. I'm wondering if it is possible to make up a new breech block to convert it to center-fire like the Spencer. If so then you have to find a suitable case to use but that...

Thanks guy's. I haven't purchased a replica firearm in years so I don't know anything about the quality of them. I hadn't been able to locate the right original i.e. a gauge bore British stalking rifle so when I got a Dixie flyer in the mail...

Anyone have one of the Pedersoli/Gibbs 12 bore rifles? If so how good is the fit and finish and how accurate is it? I'm thinking it would be a great muzzle loading elk rifle but would hate to spend that much on a marginal quality or poor shooting...

My conversion book says to use 25-06 brass. Anneal case neck, full length size in 6 x 58 die, trim to length, chamfer and full length size again. Hope this helps.

My passion is old guns. I pretty much gave up on gun shows years ago. Everything that was for sale was apparently made of Gold or maybe Platinum, what I had to sell was made of lead or more likely cast iron. I did go to a gun show in March of 2018...

I have several different silver solders on hand but the ones I use the most are Brownells High Force 44. I use way more of the low temp stuff than the high temp. I haven't bought any in years but I assume, assume is a bad word but descriptive, that...

If it can be bought at the right price have it lined. Done properly it will shoot great and it wont show on the outside and will preserve it more like it was when made. I'm getting much more conservative about modifying old guns as they're only...

I remember the first black powder round that I fired about 1955 or 56. I was at a friends house where his father and his fathers friend were getting ready to shoot a model 1874 Sharps in 50-70. They had purchased 20 rounds of original ammunition...

Got your attention didn't it. Here's the wife's this year cow taken with a Remington 700, 50 caliber muzzle loader. One shot at 50 yards using a 400 grain conical ahead of 100 grains of Goex FFG. With some difficulty we convinced her, the elk, to...

That was 2015 we were in the Limpopo District of South Africa. I took the buffalo and a very nice Kudu bull. The wife got a spectacular Gems Buck, an Impala and a Zebra. As for the buffalo hunt we spent three days working them in the thorn...

This is about the only picture of cast bullet performance on game that I have. Cape Buffalo, frontal shot to the chest from 20 yards with a .585 diameter, 525 grain SWC cast from Linotype backed with 64 grains of H 4198. He ran about 30 yards and...
