38 S&W dimensions differ from those of the more-often-reloaded 38 Special and 357 Magnum--38 S&W is NOT a short 38 Special. Throat diameters on my four examples range from .359" (Colt Police Positive) to .363" (S&W M&P and Webley-Enfield). My S&W...

I have a couple of 92's. One feeds the 358156 in 38 cases very well. Both like the Lee 125 and Lyman 358477. My longer one feeds the NOE 160 wfn very well. Both are newer safety types.

I have a 5" gun and a 3" in 40. Both do their best with power pistol, though they need different diameter bullets. AA2, Red Dot, Herco and Unique are also rans.

I have an older BLR in 308. It will be the last rifle to leave me. Accuracy is good enough with a cold bore 5 shot group averaging 1 1/4" to 1 1/2". Mine is light enough to pack all day, and the trigger is decent if not benchrest quality. I have...

I have used a 3-5 grain "kicker" of fast rifle powder to help ignition with some really slow burning powders. I would guess that a 2-3 grain kicker might be OK with a medium burning one. Que se cazas con estas? A de estar en el Oeste cerca de...

I use pin gauges to measure revolver throat diameters. Most machine shops have such tools, and some may be willing to gauge your revolver's throats at nominal cost. I don't pay much attention to bore and groove diameters any more, and concentrate...

None of my currently-owned 38 Specials are built for use of +P ammunition, so I got out of loading the stuff when my last capable example went down the road 10+ years ago. The small amount of +P 38 ammo I had on hand got run through one of the 357s...

I have had very similar results from my chronography of the W-W, R-P, and F-C versions of this load. I believe this load to be the single-best 38 Special loading carried in harm's way, and it would be my choice in this venue. Have a look at the...

98% of my rifle castings get the No. 1 Mk III eyeball exam throughout the process, and I am a kinda unforgiving of flaws I see on a bullet. I did scale some #225438 bullets for a 22 Hornet test series I ran in 2014, and shot some fairly impressive...

I have tried a couple 250 grain-class bullets with the carbine--the Lee plain-base and Lyman #375248, a gas-check flatnose. At the pressures of the load (22.0 x 4198), a gas check is superfluous, but the bullet still shot very well. The powder...

Try 22.0 grains of IMR 4198 for a smokeless duplicator of black powder performance--about 1300 FPS with the Lee 250 grainer in my rebored Win 94 carbine. Pardon my saying so......but a groove diameter of .372" sounds screwy for any 38/55. My...

Invert a gas check and put it in the muzzle. Tape your near bore sized rod every 6" and tap it out with a 3lb or heavier hammer. It takes longer to write this than to do it.
