    2 little things I've done with my LAM2 that helped me. The 1/4" drive socket adapter so I could use a ratchet instead of that goofy ball handle thing. And a wooden ball knob on the handle makes it more comfortable to use.

    Yes you can use a piece of your wire from the TC you have. You want a panel jack that's made for K type also. Will try and stick a picture in.

    That Tel-Tru can be adjusted. Did a lot of informal testing with several TC's, a couple different PID's and a VOM and as all those readings agreed within a degree or two decided they were accurate enough to reset the Tel-Tru. Just hold the nut on...

    I've got some cheap ones but my original 6" TC's from Auber were around $19@ and still working fine. Probably money well spent I think.

    No idea of a substitute but you can get a small tube from Radio Shack for a buck or two. It's a silicone base heat sink compound. I polished the base on my LAM2 and applied a thin coat of it and it made a definite difference.

    Without a size to go by the one on the left looks a lot like the lead air pipe we used to use on telephone air pressure risers. Inside diameter on that was a fit for air pressue gauge and was smooth on the bottom, not threaded. We soldered them...
