One thing over looked is although the barrel may have a tight groove diameter the cylinder throats don't. You get better accuracy when the cast bullets fits the throat. You may also have to change the expander plug to a smaller size to insure better...

The correct way to do this is to have the correct gauges. You strip the bolt of both the ejector and extractor. We're talking that the bolt is out of the carrier. You don't need the barrel in the upper receiver to check the headspace. You check and...

Alliant Power Pistol is a medium burn-rate pistol powder. It thrives when loaded with standard weight bullets (for caliber) and at moderate pressures that typically fall within 12,000 to 20,000 psi. When loaded to magnum-pressure levels that...

Dverna just let me say when things are right the little bugger will just about drill holes. Yesterday I was out shooting a 217 grain 30-06 Heavy Sil bullet, naturally designed for the 30-06 rifles and it fitsthis Compass! The 308 Compass does indeed...

The pull through expander die is for the TrueLine, Jr. The 310 die is just a sizing/decapping die with a separate muzzle expander as you know. If the die has an expander ball inside the die don't try to use it in the 310 - you don't have enough...

I agree with those who say learn to reload first, learn to cast second. I still load condom boolits first in a new rifle. Not so much to break it in but just to see what it will do, sort of a baseline. Then I clean it good and see if it will...

I make push out moulds (my name) similar to the old Ideal cylindrical moulds: Mine are beefier since I use 1 1/2" round bar and 1/4" sprue plates but certainly similar in principle. I made my first moulds like this for paper patching and...

Y-man has no access to powder or primers so is simply replacing shot with slug in factory loads. What might be a help is a Lee LoadAll Junior. I have one that I used a bit but it is pretty basic. All Y-man would need it for is fold crimping so it...

Can't comment on the "best" wads because I simply don't have much selection here so haven't tried bunches of wads. Pacific Verelite worked well for me and also regular Winchester 1 oz. and 1 1/8" oz. wads NOT Win AA Red! The Win AA Red has not...

Mike: A point for your construction, I took my basic idea from BP cross sticks (and being too cheap to by cross sticks) and a portable take apart target frame a friend has. The base is one vertical (on edge) 2" x 4" x 18" long with the flat feet...

You should be fine with the round nose. As you say, most factory slugs are round nose and without any flat shoulder. My first time out with 0.735" RB's I was wondering if they might run over the crimp but no problem at all. In fact I've found it...

You should go ahead and get that 243 Thomas before their good deals expire. When I got my 308 they only had the one synthetic stock and that was the only thing I could fault on the rifle. It's flimsy, so I replaced it with a Boyd's laminated stock...

Don't know what your two will do, but mine means and beats their BS! I've read a lot of bad about the trigger, but my trigger is rather nice out of the box so I'm going to leave it alone for now. When you get to loading for it and if you use a 168...

Wow - asking those questions you appear to be a complete novice at reloading black. The basic principle is to fill the case to 1/16"over the base of the boolit, compress, seat boolit, and shoot. Large rifle primers and FFG black to start, but a...

There's a giant article on Mihec molds in the June issue No. 314 Handloader. He mentioned that most his mold bullet designs are designed by Bobby Kell Jr a former member here.

I have both, and as much as I love the Rigby, I think the 375 would be the easier of the two to work with due to the smaller case volume. I had no problem getting to full power with cast in my 375, and of course it can be downloaded if you wish.

Indeed it does, amongst a few other variables, which is why I didn't use some of the heavy walled military cases I have which can add a few fps. over other cases. The boolit I chose was a 158 gr. SWC HP from my Lyman mold. Cases were single...

Of the rounds listed the 300BO is the best to start with, relatively low pressure and relatively low velocity. Learn and make your mistakes with this rather than a high velocity, high pressure cartridge. They are more advanced bullet casting...

Somers, Montana, a quaint little drinking village, with a severe hunting and fishing problem.

The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
