I'm with Larry once again. One of the joys of owning a gun with a strong action in .45-70 (or for that matter any calibre) is that you can download to plink cheaply, have low recoil practice rounds or whatever then load up when wanted or needed. ...

10bender, Harder alloys, e.g. linotype, drop slightly CB's of slightly greater diameter than pure Pb, but they'll also be lighter than pure Pb. Perhaps their use is one way of compensating for a mold which casts too small or even too heavy? OTOH,...

The loading gate is a non issue for me. The only gripe I have is the scope rail for the Big Boy rifles is too high. It would be nice if they were a bit thinner for a better cheek weld when using a scope.

I ended up recutting the chamber of one of my 300BLK uppers (I have 2) into a 30 Apache (7.62x45) which is the 223Rem case opened up to 30 caliber. It limits the bullets to 150gr or smaller (I prefer to load it with 110 and 125gr spirepoints but I...

Are you having those kinds of failure rates on multiple rifles, or on a single gun? I ask, because it sounds like a headspace or firing pin issue.

Get a Paco Kelley tool or similar. It makes even fairly cheap subsonic ammo more accurate and more deadly. It usually helps with making the velocity more consistent as well because of the increased 'pull' needed for the bullet to leave the case.

My opinion... 0.678" RB's are about the easiest to load for and are a standard mould size from Lyman and RCBS. They fit several standard shotcups very well and with a 16 or 20 ga. nitro card wad or two underneath generally shoot very well. ...

87gr vmax is a great little bullet, out of a 6 Dasher I know more than a few pdogs died at over 1000 yards. For long range shooting chrono data is important, extreme spread and standard deviation matter more than your group size at 100. 500 isn't...

My 1895 was a 1970's vintage and I wish I still had it. It was a victim of my need for money to go to college and was not replaced. I do have a chance of buying it back now. It would be interesting to know if this crack issue is for recent...

The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.
