It is almost impossible to evenly sand off poly without going into the wood in at least some places. You are better off stripping with a chemical stripper. One coat of critristrip may take off the poly and only minimally impact the original...

I use lizard litter and have a separate bowl with 2mm ceramic beads I use for BP brass. I use water and a squirt of soap in that, then move them to the lizard litter.

Wow, Randy. I got mine in 1969, in 30-30 and 16 ga. No I don't think they had the Zero Error then either. I was 16 and was loading for my Dad's and my brother's Marlin 30-30's and for my 16ga single barrel. Little story I've posted here...

Oh, sure it is. Gun writers never lie. 2700 fps with 100 gr bullets in a grendel is WAY better than 2800 fps in that ancient lever action Savage. And 6.5 creedmoor is 10 ten times better than a 6.5x55 swede. Never talk ballistics to AR guys, they...

I am using all components as original from factory except the barrel of course. All shooting so far has been from the bench and one at a time. I might not trust the feeding in a dangerous game situation like cape buffalo or Kodiak bears, but then...

Any 25-35 or 38-55 from that era for a 99 would most likely screw right up. Keep looking, you never know. I found a 22 high power barrel.

I know it is commonly said that Blue Dot can be a problem to ignite in sub freezing weather but I've shot slugs over Blue Dot at down to -15 C (5 F) with no issues at all. Not saying it can't happen or that there aren't better cold weather powders...

I had one nearly identical, though of much older manufacture, and it did just fine at pulling cast, but like anything else, deformed them enough that the bullets weren't re-loadable. Fine for pulling ammo down, but the cast bullets went back in the...

Been a while and my .45/70 sized and lubed bullets were getting low. Cast a couple of hundred yesterday and sat down to lube and size today. RCBS 45-405-FN with a HP. About half way through, you might know it, I ran out of gas checks. Sitting in...

The bolt face is flat on a 99 with no recess, and the head dia is only .032" smaller so the extractor works fine. It gets sticky sometimes feeding into battery because the short case will come up before the firing pin gets pulled back. This mostly...

The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.
John Taylor - "African Rifles and Cartridges"

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
