Thanks mike, now we are getting somewhere. I just want to make sure I don't go with too soft of an alloy.

How do I get copper in the mix? Thought it took a lot higher temps to melt?

Nope, going to use the devastor. Not looking for opinions just answers on how to get it to expand without shedding too much lead at higher velocities. Pewter has 93% percent or more tin in it if you were not aware. If it sheds some lead the...

You have a point but it doesn't answer my question. I want an alloy that will expand to give the best kinetic energy transfer without coming apart. I don't want to make a hard boolit that doesn't expand and just poke holes. If so I will shoot it...

In some of the readings I've done in here it seems that Tin(I'm using pewter) helps with keeping the hollow point pedals of the 44 mag devastators I'm casting from shearing off. I've tried pure lead with 6% pewter with a Bh around 6.5 at 1675fps and...

or shooter :kidding:[smilie=s: I would start by getting measurements off the gun-- forcing cone & bore, How much over the bore size is your boolit/forcing cone what alloy are you using (is it too soft for your velocity) what are lube/or...

I glued a few in place today for testing. Found out they were too long to fit in my 77/44 magazine. I ground them flat so they are flush with the cavity so the hollow point is completely sealed and will now feed. Don't plan on testing them since...

I ran some though this morning. I took a little more time trying to snap the GC's on before sizing instead of starting them with the GC overlapping one side of the boolit base. I had a few that still wouldn't snap on. I pushed them up into the...

If you are going to buy brand new or if you could get one used I would get the Mec sizemaster in 410 . It will size the base of your shells . if you get hulls once fired sometimes the 600jr won`t size them tight enough to fit you gun easily ....

No doubt as a lot of cast bullets were used by military shooters. Earliest I read of Ideal's (the mould company name) #1 alloy was in Lt. Townsend Whelen's book Suggestions To Military Riflemen (1909) originally published in 1909.

The 358W can give feeding problems in the SR Mauser actions (M93 - M95) as they do not have the correct case taper, same as the .308W. I had a heck of a time getting my Oviedo M93 to reliably feed .308Ws if 3 or more rounds were in the magazine. ...

I used Smokes powder. Once it turned shiny I baked it for 20 min at 450 in my toaster oven. Some of my GC's wouldn't snap on and I started them crooked when I sized. I'm guessing the boolit scraped on one side going in crooked? I remember having the...

I had some issues with casting the other day. I had some lead finning on my boolits so I realize the thin lead fin scraped off along where the PC was. I know it's not the PC's fault and from crappy casting. I would assume it's nothing to worry...

Good job for the first go around. If you are using a bottom pour pot, skimming isn't that critical. A regular large "eating" spoon or soup spoon (the curved kind) works for skimming. I flux with pine sawdust and leave the dross (looks like grey...
