Good idea! I'm wanting to patch for my 410. But slicing the inner wraps sounds like a great idea, even just cutting petals into the fore section of the inner wrap might be of benefit. Or even just slicing petals into the finished nose section....

In my experiments it was interesting that the same powder charge with and without grits filler produced widely different muzzle blast. Clearly more powder energy was being transferred to the boolit when the pressure was pushed up earlier. The same...

I have one chamber with a shorter than usual neck. I know it's shorter because longer cases fired in it have this tapered mouth tell tale. Good idea on the 8x57 die. It's interesting that with a head separation there is no gas leak - or at...

I experimented with this type of thing some years back. My objective was lower muzzle pressure but with H4227. I used a filler (grits) to raise the pressure. I theorize that it works in two ways - reducing case volume and restricting expansion. ...

I'd suggest wrapping to just fit an unsized neck. I aim for enough interference that I can start the boolit seating by hand then finish in the press. Printer paper makes this easier since it is more compressible. I roll the patched boolit on the...

303Guy replied to a thread Enfield Headspace in Military Rifles
I have a martini 303 carbine barrel on a Lee Enfield action that has a very tight chamber. There is no visible expansion on a fired case and the shoulder does not move forward. But before I fitted this barrel to a 'new' action, the headspace was...

I know a printer paper patch can stay on all the way to the target. I have samples. I have thought about a sabot type patch and even went as far as making a sabot 22LR cartridge projectile for my 25/303. It was a live round so I never fired it. ...

I read an article just this morning on how 2400 blew up a Contender in .475 JDJ. Detonation was blamed. Large case (45-70), small charge, heavy boolit (.458), fireforming for the .475. http://www.reloadammo.com/liteload.htm

I made a nose pour mold that use a G/C to close the mold base. The G/C was slightly expanded first then inserted to the required depth using a tool I made.

I have some South African PMP cases. They have a smaller capacity than all the others I have measured. So perhaps the web area is thicker and stronger. I used them in my short barrelled pig gun because of the smaller case capacity. I made a...

Many years ago there was a news report in which a 22lr bullet entered a U-shaped bent pipe in the berm. The bullet struck either the shooter or someone else at the firing line in the heart, killing them.

If the chamber is tight to start with but there is a headspace issue (which is what causes head separation) then the O-ring is hard to use as it has nowhere to go. In that case one is only trying to set the shoulder to headspace on. Something I...

I have a 'light' boolit plinking round I had forgotten about that is subsonic. It came about from trying to get my 'rust textured' two-groove 303 Brit to shoot cast/paper patched. It didn't work in that rifle but was very accurate in my short...

I mentioned earlier in this thread (years ago) that I've shot cast in my rust textured two groove Longbranch. It wasn't accurate but the 217gr smooth side patched boolits I was firing went nose first. I also fired plain cast 225gr smooth sides but...

I somehow doubt stearic acid is the cause of corrosion. Paraffin wax as used in candles had stearic acid in it. It is added to raise the melting point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraffin_wax Stearic acid is good flux and can be used...

I would imagine wax would work. The idea is not to prevent case to chamber wall grip but to reduce it so that the case can creep, thereby spreading the elongation over the full length of the case. With reduced loads and new or FL sized cases I lube...

I also lube my loaded cases. My cases last forever or the neck splits ir they get lost, whichever comes first. I also don't load to max pressure. Actaully, I have some cases that have worn out rims from chambering ahead of the bolt.
