My wife and I were in a restaurant sitting on the patio having breakfast last week when a young man came in leading a small dog. I asked him about the dog and he said he bought it when he was stationed at Norfolk, Va. in the Navy. When I told him I...

I belonged to a large gun club many years ago, many decades really and we could buy those made by H&A for around $60 as I recall. The club was so large that we could buy at the same prices as distributors. It was the Santiago Rifle & Pistol Club in...

It is supposed to be around 79% here today. My wife and I just got back from Palm Spgs and it was in the mid 80s there. We saw several cars with either British Columbia or Alberta license plates. Opos is right, San Diego has the best weather in the...

Next June 13th we will celebrate # 60. Buy the way the 13 of June was on a Friday in 1958. So much for superstition. We were just watching some old 8MM film of our early days together. It is easy to see her in those old films why the guys would hoot...

GOPHER SLAYER replied to a thread pickup trucks? in Our Town
I had a 1969 F-100 and drove it for 39 years, over hauled a 302 engine and installed it myself when the truck was six years old. It came with a huge inline six that couldn't climb a cigarette butt. I drove that truck across the U.S. three times...

Opos, I am in the same boat as you, to quote a tired old metaphor. I am 83 and have a safe full of guns, mostly single shots, some of which I have not fired in years. I care nothing about the black guns and hate to be seated to the right of one at...

I have a Marlin 44 Mag carbine and it has Micro Grove rifling. I found out that your cast bullets should be slightly oversized or you will get a very heavy leaded barrel. After long hours of scrubbing I finally got the lead out. A friend gave me...

GOPHER SLAYER replied to a thread Plastic bottles in Our Town
I can't drink water from the tap so we installed a filter on the faucet. They have built so many houses in the area the aquifer is almost pumped dry and tastes gross but they keep handing out building permits. Money does speed up the process.

GOPHER SLAYER started a thread Plastic bottles in Our Town
The companies who sell bottled water tell us not to refill them because the plastic will degrade and make the water harmful to drink. My question is, does the plastic only degrade after you open the cap the first time? Does anyone know what the...

I had read before that Sterling Hayden had spent his time in in the OSS smuggling arms to from Italy to partitions in what later became Yugoslavia, which happens to be in the Balkans and no where near the Baltic. He was well suited for the job...
