Well I just learned something. I have an old Lyman 45 lube-sizer. It's mounted to a heat plate because I am using White's Carnauba Red lube. When the heater is on and I ratchet up pressure on the lube I get a thin ribbon of lube coming out...

Wheel weights arrived today. I got 10 lbs to try. Set up the propane burner and melted them down. Pretty dirty like you'd get from a tire shop. All were lead based. I dumped them all into an 8" cast iron skillet to melt. Used a magnet to...

OK, I counted the longs. There are 35 of them. If you want both I'll mail them off. If you send me a couple bucks for postage they'll be in the mail. Still need a mailing address.

I counted. I have exactly 31 fired .32 S&W short cases. You are welcome to them. I also have some .32 S&W Long brass. Maybe 40 or 50. If you want them send me a PM with your name, address. I don't want to sell them but help with shipping would...

Jim22 replied to a thread Alloy Temperature in Cast Boolits
Thanks. My casting sessions will get better and better using some of your tips. Maybe the best is draining the pot at the end of the session. I have a Lee ingot mould. It throws about 1# and half lb. ingots. Also allows me to use a different...

The casting session went much smoother today. I just got delivery of the lead thermometer I ordered from Rotometals. Used it for the first time today. I am using a Lee bottom pour 10 lb pot. I preheated the alloy with the same thermostat setting...

Jim22 replied to a thread norma 205 powder in Cast Boolits
Norma 205 is an old powder. I have some and have used it. It is very slow burning. It may not be suitable for cast boolits. Its burning rate is something like H4831. I have an old Speer loading manual - Number 8 - that has loads using Norma 205...

I buy from Rotometals but I just ordered lead wheel weights from a vendor on EBay. Just go there and search for Scrap Lead. Lots of linotype and pure Pb. I'll let you all know how the wheel weights turn out.

When I first started casting boolits in the 70's it was commonly recommended to leave the last boolit(s) you cast during a session in the mould, sprue and all, to help keep the iron blocks from rusting between uses. Does anyone still do this? Is...

Surprisingly, the two cavity RCBS .375-250 FNGC mould I ordered arrived. They told me it was back ordered but some must have come in. I cast a hundred or so yesterday from 90-5-5 alloy and today sized, lubed, and installed gas checks. Carnauba...

No, they are not the same at all. The .375 JDJ, like many JDJ wildcats is based on the .444 Marlin case necked to .375. This gives a rim and the capacity is between the .30-06 and the .308 Win.. J.D. Jones invented them for TC Contenders for...

That is a really good looking bullet. Looks like a bore riding nose with two and a half lube grooves. I say half because my experience with gas checks is that the shank for them is usually longer than the depth of the gas check leaving about half...
