After some searching, I located this 1991 DOJ/FBI Report which documents slow rotation as a contributing factor to rifled slug accuracy: "The slight rotation imparted by the ribs reduces the effect of manufacturing irregularities. In tests...

Gentlemen, Remember, commercial 12 pellet 00B loads contain pellets on the smaller side of of the industry tolerance range. Usually around .323" and 50 grains. Such a 12 pellet load would then have a 600 grain or 1 3/8 ounce payload.

All Federal 12 gauge slug loads in the LE line have blue hulls to visually differentiate slug cartridges from buckshot. See: https://www.gtdist.com/products/guns-firearms/federal-12ga-5-bx-tb-1oz-slug-2-3-4.html

Some shotshell related speculation: Breakaway Glass Plastic may well be the material from which clear over shot wads are made. Indeed, the action of these clear wads when fired is aptly described: "...the disk crumbles into dust after the load’s...

Winchester's 1963 introduction of the Mark V shot collar and granulated buffer to to the Super-X buckshot line effectively reduced the inside diameter of the hull. This in turn required a reduction in buckshot pellet diameter. This was noted by...
