And on the subject of Ballard rifles. Consider this. Marlin built less than 50,000 total Ballard rifles over 15 years. That's every model, and variation all together. So finding a Ballard of any kind is great, and finding one in nice shooting shape...

Very true! I collected pre WWI era Marlin lever actions for many years, and one day realized I didn't have a single Marlin Ballard. How could my collection be complete, and not have an example of Marlin's only single shot rifle? So I hit the...

The Borchardt is a no brainer to me at the price. I haven't seen a military Borchardt in decent shape for $1500 in many years. So buying that one would be my first choice. I'd pass on the Argentine Roller, as it's a bit high, and I am not a fan of...

Doesn't Pyrodex say not to compress it? I don't use it so I don't really know, just something I've heard.

what I found in the hornet is that primers are more critical then in about any other cartridge. Probably because of the small case. What I had hands down the best luck with in primers in my hornets was cci match small pistol primers and Remington...

they might surprise you. I shot ppc for years with a clark/smith 10. For grins one day I loaded up some 115 rcbs 9mm round noses with 2.5 grains of bullseye to plink with and found they outshot my comp load. They were sized to .357 and conventionaly...

yup the trick to it is to use your brain. If your shooting a gun you know leads up fire a jacketed bullet every 10 or 20 rounds to keep it clean. You don't wait till the rifling is full and its dripping out the end of the barrel. Bottom line is if a...

I don't think there is an official name but when I went to All Guard Match rifle course they referred to the sound the action makes when it moves as "chirping". Glue in bedding used to be common with the benchrest crowd. They would bed the action...

Same for me. I tried Rem 6 1/2's, CCI 400's and various pistol primers and Rem 7 1/2 worked best. I have read the 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 have the same priming compound with the only difference as cup thickness??? It could just be a lot to lot variation...

I've never seen one that shot that poorly period. That being said most of the ones I have done are NM rifles that needed bedding and or a new barrel. I did a dozen rack grade unfired M-14's with the standard barrels and 4 or 5 shot well enough to...
