hand turning a drill bit in a press would cut it out too. 5 minutes with a dowell and some sand paper, some lapping compound, your pocket knife, whatever you got. the worst that could happen is you make it a little too big and have to size it down...

that's why i use 2 of the 1-1/2" straps. both go from the back of the wheeler to the tie down hooks in the front of the bed. it's kind of a pain to strap everything in place,,,, But.

excellent. a lot of guy's don't realize that the cartridge itself becomes part of the maschinery in the lever guns and especially in the 92 types. their length and bullet weight/shape influences how well they feed and at what speed they feed....

9's work for lots of stuff if you have the draw dies. you can pull it all the way down to 30 caliber rifle jackets but it's something like a 5-6 step draw. they make 40 cal bullets in 1-2 steps and no drama. I use the 40 brass to make 44 mag...

the bullets hit the back stop and flip up and over it. I get most of my hand gun type range scrap from behind the 50 yd berm. you can make frangible boolits with the equipment you have. the cost however is going to be out of control. anyway...

Bill. those 311 and 312's are starting to be sought after if they are in good workable shape. the very early 312's are actually very nice guns and were rebranded higher end 'plain janes'

I have used the XTP's for deer a number of times. they have failed to open and seem to perform like my cast RNFP's when they don't. when they do open they are even better. the key is the velocity you use them in, I was running some of them on...

I mostly use a levergun and keep in the pines and just scoot along real slow watching everything. the 358 above is kind of the rifle with a scope compromise between the two. our area here is similar to your front range or western slope area there....

yes I generally run them in the standard speed range but do run a couple of rifles up further. the 358 win I run with 48.5 grs of RL-19 and a 250 gr boolit. my buddy kept borrowing it for land owner tag cull work, I had to go get it back from...

antimony is added to lead to make it flow better under pressure. it is used in window came, pipes, and such that is extruded under pressure. I have never measured the BHN of pure lead after swaging it.

I don't think you even need the 1200 fps, but the harder alloy would sway me in that direction. I would be more inclined to go with the Hornady XTP at about 1,000 fps. simple, easy, get him to the range stuff. oh if he feels bad about it remind...

I don't mess around with 3 different alloys for three different purposes in a hunting rifle. I keep things super simple. I have a 3'x4'x3' stack of triangle ingots under the bench, they are all the exact same alloy. 3 parts ww's 1 part stick on...

your about where ww's in the 70's-80's used to be. IMO your probably running harder than necessary but I have shot tons of an alloy real close to yours so I got nuthin. you could throw in some soft lead and not see a difference other than a slight...

whooping crane is called roast beef here. we can't shoot swans though, we just raise them so the people to the south of us can shoot them. I have had swan before it is like goose. it was a draw tag in Utah.

you can get the elements and bend them around a pot. they don't become hardened and brittle like until you heat them up. a 110 stove element will melt 10-12 lbs of alloy in about 20-30 minutes.
