This is the data I started using back when I got the 313631 mould. It is from Lyman's CBH #3, 1st edition. I have pressure tested several of these loads and they are correct and within Federal Factory psi's.

Probably. Additionally SAAMI has not established a MAP (Maximum Average Pressure) yet for the 32 H&R Magnum. Thus what you see in manuals is their interpretation of what they think they should call a "maximum" load. As there are revolvers, SSs...

I've been using cast bullets in M1 carbines since '68. I most often used just COWWs (+ 2& tin the last 20 years) which run 12 - 14 BHN when air cooled. For many years I've preferred to use a service cartridge velocity level load as that most...

Am I pushing them too fast? Short answer is yes.....obviously...... You might switch powders and load them down to 1300 - 1400 fps. However, if you want to use commercial cast at those velocities you might look for a vender that sells...

You know when I heard that "back in the day" it made a lot of sense and I thought it probably was the reason. However, after numerous years of investigating and research which found there never was any arsenal documentation to back that story up. ...

Blacktails and mulies with my .41 magnum. For hunting with cast I use the RCBS 44-210, a Keith type SWC, at 1400 fps out of my Ruger Bisley with 7 1/2" barrel. It's always worked and wasn't broke so I never went to a heavier or WFN bullet.....

Ah yes, M2 Alternate ammunition. I do not include M2 Alternate in with M2 Ball as it has it's own designation as does M2 Armor Piercing. There's several specific references to M2 Alternate ammunition non of which give a crystal clear idea of the...

The original M2 Ball was the result of, in the late '30s when the National Guard was called up and federalized, the new M1 30-06 ammunition exceeding the safety fans of the National Guard ranges. National Guard Bureau requested ammunition with the...

Your oven quenched bullets should do well up through 13-1400 fps, perhaps a bit higher.

Should do better (maintain accuracy to a farther distance) in the 16" twist but, as mentioned, the sometimes almost cylindrical bullet shape of some WFN/OWC does come into play.

Might be better served in the rifle with a GC'd bullet, especially if a softer alloy might be used or you have to drive it fast if the Ruger has a slow twist.

"What’s the secret to getting 100-yard accuracy out of a WFN or OWC design? Or should I stick to LFN and SWC designs?" Probably using a shorter lighter weight one that gives better stability at the velocities you mention in the 18 3/8" twist of...

sisterjim PM sent, given the 38-55 had a 20" twist the 18" twist should suffice just fine for your needs.

Can someone give me an approximate range of manufacturing dates of this ammo? It is REM-UMC 45 Govt 45-70. It has a 405 gr swaged lead FNHB bullet that was sized .457. The balloon head case had 70 gr of what appeared to be 3Fg BP compressed in it.

Picked this up at the LGS a while back. Had 20 cartridges in excellent condition in it. Plan on pressure testing 10 of them.
