I’ve seen plenty of those primers removed by the water method. Even with plain wooden dowl.

Just an idea that might narrow things down. By a box of high quality cast boolits to load. Make up some of your loads and see what you get. It might give you an idea of where to start looking first. Good luck

Those grooves look pretty big for Comet. Maybe a grain of sand or a metal impurity got in. Did you do all the cavities? See if you can see any pattern. I’ve heard of people using toothpaste, but don’t know if it still has the same stuff in it as...

I have heard that the new .45-70s had issues with the full length tube. The original load tubes were produced with only enough for four. The heavy rounds would have an effect on accuracy as they were used up and affecting the balance and maybe...

I was wondering this because where I recuperate my range scrap, is used mostly by hand gunners, who I recently found out shot hard lead bullets. My range scrap was measuring 16+ BHN. I always thought 22s were pure lead, but now I find they may be...

I just won a bid on an old 16ga double barrel shotgun. Itís going to be more or less, a wall hanger, but I would like to shoot it if Iím in the mood. Iím sure it predates smokeless, thatís not a problem for me. I have two questions, however,...

My range scrap comes from a 25 yard handgun range. At first I thought it would be too soft and I would have to harden it up. Since then I got a harness tester and it comes out to 16-18 BHN. Apparently, most shooting there were using hard cast...

I don’t think there is a need for something to be designed. I think most possibilities already exist. The heavier the boolit the better. The blunter and maybe shorter could help, but all these things exist. It’s now a choice to be made. I’m sure...

Normally, PC withstands more heat than lead. Not the same type of plastic as in shogun shells. When adding culls to melt, the lead melts and the PC floats on top.

I just watched a video with someone loading .45-70 rounds. When it came time to seat thr boolits in the cases, he had a seating die that was cut away, so you could watch the boolit being seated in the case. This way you knew exactly how far it was...

I agree to get any hard evidence you would have to have a lot of sample shots. There are people who shoot .45 round balls our of .45 colts or long colts. There’s a YouTube video about it. If you could get a hold of one of those rifles and test...

So why do you need to shoot pure lead in a muzzle loader? I thought it was so the boolit or ball would obturate, making a better seal in the bore. What are these new barrels that can shoot hard lead? Is wear involved? Is obturation not a factor with...

My Marlin has always been very forgiving no matter what I feed it. However, I’ve only used solid based boolits. My alloy is pretty hard too. I would try some different boolits. You don’t have to buy a mold. Just buy some different cast boolits....
