I’ve learned a lot during this post. I recuperate a lot of lead from an indoor range. At the beginning of this post I was thinking, why not see what I can get from the trap range. Now I think I just better let it pass.

Were you tumbling only the boolits and not the loaded cartridge ? If so did they come out concentric and with the diameter you wanted?

I agree with all the above. Lacquer isn’t a tough finish. I think most industrial furniture produced today is coated with polyethylene. If you’re just planning to use the gun as a wall hanger it should serve well, but any exposure to water it will...

I’ve always heard that arsenic was used in casting shot. If I were melting it, I would make sure I was up wind from the fumes. Not sure if the amount present would be harmful, but it doesn’t hurt to play it safe.

I had a Lee universal expander, but quickly changed to some from NOE. They’re more precise and I think they help extend brass life.

Why would you want to do it? A .45/70 is enough gun for North America, including Alaska. Sell or keep it and buy another gun, if that’s really what you want.

Sounds like adding more tin and lowering he pot temperature would be the first thing to try. Lee’s moulds aren’t always perfect. You can always try sending it back or hone it a little bit with a split dowel and fine sandpaper.

Iíve been looking at NOEs bushings. I have a bunch of there bushings already. I have always bought the body sizer bushings. Now I want to size down more than the body sizer they have listed, but they have a smaller one in nose sizer. Do nose sizers...

I agree the loss of game probably has a lot to do with, loss of habitats most of all. Probably other things too. The world population is putting a strain on all food supplies. Both land and sea. The agricultural industry is forced to produce the...

Fooled me. I thought you were going to say you went in for milk and came out with a new gun! A little mold on cheese dose not mean the end of the world. A lot of cheese makers look for it to improve the taste of there cheese. That’s what most...

I always thought a gas check still was considered a boolit. You still have to lube or PC it. Are there any competitions that say lead boolits only? What do they say about gas checks?

I hear what you are saying, I donít think you are comparing apples to apples. Crankshafts run on a cushion of oil and normally shouldnít touch the Babbitt.

This really should be a two part question. The throat and the rest of the barrel. Given the same power loads for the cartridges, throat wear should be the same. There are rounds known as barrel burners, but I am pretty sure that’s mostly the...

I used to use them a lot, but less and less that we are finding out that they can be harmful. Still I use some now and then. I believe, live a better life with the use of chemicals. I have a lot around my place. My favorite is HCl on heavy rust (not...

From what I’m hearing, I’m leaning towards brass. If you’re buying a mould other than from Lee, the additional cost of brass doesn’t to be that much. I’m planning on two cavities, so weight shouldn’t be too much of a problem, however, one of the...

Has anyone seen the video on repairing a crack in cast iron, by drilling and installing inserts with something like locktite and then drilling between them and installing more inserts?
