Annealing a bolt might be a good idea. I didn’t think about that. I plan to make another one and if that method works, that could be the way to go. The part threads into cast iron and has to take a lot of torque to hold the flint in place. That’s...

It’s a 200+ year old gun and the threads don’t correspond to anything current today. That’s why I had to make one.

I just made a new screw yesterday, that goes into the cock to hold the flint for my flintlock. The old screw was stripped. I only have mild steel to work with, so I think I would be a good idea to harden it. I looked for the product mentioned that...

GregLaROCHE replied to a thread Ladle Casting in Cast Boolits
I haven’t bought a ladle yet, but I think I will. About how much lead do the RCBS and Lyman ladles hold? Doesn’t sound like one is better than the other. I guess I’ll go for the best price if no one advises me otherwise. Thanks for all the info.

When ladle casting, are people using only single or maybe double molds? Can you ladle cast for six cavity molds with big boolit sizes?

I recently made some screws for the lock of a 200+ year old flintlock. They work fine, but I was wondering if I should harden them? If so, what would be the simplest way to do so? Thanks

GregLaROCHE started a thread Ladle Casting in Cast Boolits
Iíve never ladle cast before. Iíve always used a bottom pour pot and kept a cover of flux on top, to keep to lead from oxidizing. When ladle casting, can I still keep flux on top or does it get in the way?

There are people shooting round balls without patches. I have heard you can roll the ball between two rasps to raise points on it, so it stays tight in the bore. Iíve also heard that what counts is that it rolls down the bore when fired. I guess...
