Is the 6mm-06 a standard, commercially produced cartridge or is its wildcat round?

I was wondering how much do others trim their cases to. Do people normally trim to the exact maximum length or leave a couple thousand? Does it make any difference for BP?

You can’t go wrong taking it to a gunsmith now. It will be the beginning of building up a relationship with him, so you will have a place to go for questions. When he extracts it you may learn something. We can always find stuff cheaper on the...

Sounded like you were planning on getting a mold. In the meantime, you might be able to buy some precast boolits. Didn’t catch what caliber you were shooting. Normally they can be found at a quite reasonable price. Some people claim PC boolits help...

So that means I need to pickup the Lyman M die I saw for ten bucks to put it in. It won’t work in any other die like a Lee Universal Expander die. I don’t have any Lyman M dies at this time.

I have a simple NOE sizer. I am worried, if I size without lube to seat the GC, won’t I get lead on my die? If I lube the boolit, I can’t get it clean enough for the powder to stick.

I have always added Gas checks after PCing the boolits. I have wanted to try to before, but didnít see how I could. I use my sizer to seat them and always lube bare lead boolits. If I donít lube, donít I risk having lead gauling in the sizer? I...

That’s a really interesting way to do it. Especially for someone just starting and wanting to keep costs down. I wonder if anyone else has tried it.

Just thinking. If I went with a cap screw or a flat head, I could chuck it in my drill press and adjust it for the same depth each time. That should work shouldn’t it?

I just saw a Lyman M die in .41 cal for ten bucks and wondered if I could use it to compress BP using a press. I guess I’ll pass on it. Thanks for your input.

Powder coating works great for Marlin .45-70 boolits. If you already have a mold that you think is small you can powder coat to increase diameter.

Well that sounds like positive news. I hope you tried a couple in a different gun and some different primers in the original gun. If that all checks out I think you might get some satisfaction. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

You could carefully pull them and save the powder and boolits. You would need a good boolit puller. Not a pair of pliers. Boolits and powder is probably still good. You could then relube them, because there is a good chance some of the lube has...

The crimp from the seater die should be enough, if it’s adjusted to give the max possible. That’s all most people used to use a while back. You may have to look elsewhere to find the problem. Do you have other cases that you haven’t annealed to try....

Welcome to the powder coating club. You’re sure to enjoy doing it and shooting the boolits. It works especially well with those big slugs. (Easier to stand up and they don’t fall over when you close the oven door)

Powder coating works great in my .45-70 Marlin. I don’t see a need to gas check them. I don’t see any reason you couldn’t use the powder coated boolits with BP if you wanted to. Just follow correct procedures for BP. Swabbing after each shot or...
