A few years ago, I had already shot smoothbore for score, and for fun went with a group of friends to shoot the course again. Being a bit of a smart ***, I shot the course left handed, and still beat the others scores! They are still whining about...

I just take any scrap wood, and rough one out when needed. As we know, files and rasps aren't cheap. The ones I use most cost from $50-70 each. I also use Bogg's for sharpening.

My friend who is a gun dealer was at the range today, showing one of the members a couple of Ruger rimfire pistols. One was just marked Ruger and had a tapered barrel and the other one had a heavier barrel with not such a pronounced taper and was...

If it's like one company I worked for, it would consist of inserting the barrel into a catch trap, and pulling the trigger.

I'd mentioned that a while back, warning those along the Missouri River to be prepared with sandbags. There is a LOT of snow in the mountains.

For those who leave a vent pick in while loading, if they will just give the gun a couple light slaps, or bounce it lightly on the ground a couple times to settle the powder properly, that is unnecessary, and gets the powder as close to the vent as...

Most experienced flintlock shooters will not use lead wrapped flint. Several makers will not warranty their locks if it is used. I am one builder who won't warranty a gun that the owner uses them.

I went west from Kalispell yesterday for a shoot. The snow is going away in my area, but I was amazed at how much snow is still on the ground just a little way west. And no one is giving Donald Trump any credit for ending global warming!

This current gun is right on 8.5#. I would estimate the small profile barrel to make into a rifle of around 7 - 7.5#.

I don't think people around Moyie Springs check the mail often. A friend from there ordered an item from me, that I finished and mailed. He called two weeks later, asking when it would get there? I checked tracking, that showed it had been delivered...

Thick at the breech and muzzle, with a taper to around 2/3 length of the barrel. Think of it as a waist. Makes for a light, very nice handling rifle. Definitely my favorite to build with. Do a google, you should be able to find good images with...

I'd personally go with a heavier bullet. 200 gr. would be nice. Here's a friend of mine who took a stag in NZ a few years ago with a flintlock.

Not all staff there are the same. I was having a conversation with Veral Smith on temperature, pressures and lubes, and found myself banned. There was certainly nothing out of line from myself or Veral, but out I went. Never did figure that one out.

Actually, it turned out to be a pretty heavy rifle, so I will probably shoot it for a few months, then sell it to some young fellow. Too heavy for me to carry around long! I'm already plotting on building another with a slim profile swamped Getz...

Well, you CAN put it back on, by cutting and sanding filler stips to glue in. Much better to do it right the first time. The strips pretty much disappear on a finished gun. Something novice builders tend to do, is to keep removing the inletting...

I've seen a lot of Memorial Day weekends with snow. Also mid-June, July 4, August 15, September 21. We always get three months of summer, we just never know which three.

After a fouling shot, at 50 yards the first load went into 1.5". I upped the charge 5 gr., and it was one hole, if I could hold it well enough. I'm going to have to try in at 100 yards when we get a nice day. So I ended up with 70 gr. 3fff,...

I'm guessing the original frizzen wouldn't spark at all, and someone who didn't know what they were doing tried to half sole it. I think I would just try to find a new frizzen for it, and toss that one on the scrap heap. If you don't want to do...
