Imagine handing a 590a1 to George washington, loaded with good modern slugs. I'd love to see the look on his face!

that's pretty darn cool! it sounds like the key here is the single base powder to help avoid the undercharge detonation boogyman. I'm sure i'll work up a roundball load at some point.

Update...so after getting on paper with a box of wolf steel case garbage at a 25 yd. Pistol range, I shot a whole box of federal fusion 120 gn, and a while box of Hornady black 123 gn. Into a 3 inch 40 shot group at 100 yards. It's nothing...

The postman cometh! the last of my parts arrived today, and I'll be assembling my franken-rifle tonight and maybe tomorrow. it's a mix of BCA, UTG, ar-stoner, and black rifle depot parts on an 80% lower, so by no means a high dollar build. I got a...

Randy, I hear you on the recoil of those federal slugs! They're a force to be reckoned with in a 7 lb shotgun. luckily my back is still plenty strong, but before I got smart and started putting lead in my stocks, I scope cut myself more than a few...

For my money, it's awefully hard to beat the federal truball at 1600fps with any 1 oz hand loaded foster slug. They hit plenty hard, and really shine in the accuracy department in every gun i've tried them in. and at $.80 a pop, they're cheap...

After some careful deliberation, I went with the 24 inch barrel in 6.5 grendel. It's got more bore volume than the .300blk and the longer barrel should provide plenty of gas pressure dwell time for cycling the action with a variety of goofy loads. ...

Just a word of caution...keep those shells round when you fill them. If they end up oval in cross section, they'll break up in the barrel when they hit the forcing cone. Find a chunk of pipe the shell fits tightly into, and insert the shell while...

Hmm...that's a pretty cool idea too. At 80 gn. It should carry twice the energy, and maybe get some tumbling action on impact if the stars align.

Thanks for the input guys! I just got back from the range with a borrowed blackout sbr, and it was definitely quieter with subsonic loads than it was full power. Still need earplugs, but nothing like standing beside a .30-06 or bigger. The lack...

Yeah, I've heard one suppressed before, and it was super quiet, but that was with a very short barrel. Without the can however, that stumpy little barrel sure could bark. I'd rather not pay the 200dollar tax, and wait months for paperwork and all...

One of these days I'll do a big straight wall rimmed case lever gun, but till then, I've got this half-built AR burning a hole in my pocket. lol one of my favorite loads for the .45-70 is a .45 round ball in front of a little bit of black powder,...

yeah, that's the basic idea...get a little more weight moving downrange at 1050 or so...plus much better b.c. than the little 40 grain pill to help buck the wind...or at least be more predictable in the wind. There's some fine looking molds out...

Thanks for the quick reply! I did consider the 9mm option, and my pests are primarily large groundhogs, raccoons, coyotes, and the occasional fox that eats my chickens. .38 special would not be a bad choice either, but I already have a stock and a...

Hi folks, I need some opinions to help me make a decision. I'm building an AR15 for plinking and pest control, and I'm at an impasse deciding on a bolt and barrel. My two top choices are 300 blackout and 6.5 grendel. I intend to fire reduced...
