The English made Parker Hale barrels were all hammer forged in house. So the possibility of the dimensions being variable is remote. When I see a shooter having problems with Minies, the answer is nearly always too hard bullets that dont upset on...

You want to give your iron pot a good scrape over too.Its surprising that sand and dirt can lurk under the surface of the lead ,and pop up at the moment you think everything is clean. It will also come up in your casting pot ,too.

Can be risky ...at one time Nickle was $11/lb,$22K/tonne.......Big risk with stashes of metal is theft....of course in Cali,it could also be legislated as toxic waste.

I should have mentioned ,melted caustic reacts with most metal oxides to form a glass,so you can definitely remove oxides with it.

Generally the early delivery Greeners will take a 32/20 as issued, the later delivery second model BSA s wont, and its necessary to remove the barrel ,deepen the rim recess and refit ......due to the small 3/4" tenon thread ,the barrel unscrews easily...

The trick would be for someone with access to have the caustic dross analyzed and find out exactly what is being removed from the melt. There is a commonly used sodium compound of tin, sodium stannate, which may (or not) form ......aqueous hydroxide...

Properly applied TiN is used on milling cutters and drillbits,so no way it will flake off a sizing die.....I suspect it would be considerably cheaper than using a carbide ring inserted into the steel,as the coating is just "deposited" onto the steel...

interesting about the revolver case ...in fact the chamber has no ledge to limit case length ,and as 32/20 cases work without trimming,I suspect the Nagant case may also work without trimming, being only 3/16" longer.

Funny thing was the post64 Winchester Mod 94s wernt bad guns ,and cosmetically couldnt be faulted when new .....I bought a Marlin 1895 same time as 94 ,and the 95 ,even in 1973 ,was far worse finished than the Winchester.....even had small dents in...

Heated less than red hot ,annealing is minor.....the colour is dependant on time at heat as well as temp.........however ,as its a cheap/common case ,its no loss ......I f you fully anneal something that costs $3 -$5 a case ,then its different.
